As summer approaches, United Airlines is introducing a new route from San Francisco (SFO) to Canada.

From July 1, 2024, the Star Alliance member airline will start nonstop service from its hub at SFO to Montréal (YUL) — the second-largest city in Canada.

Here are the details of United’s new route, arriving just in time for a summer city break.

Fly Nonstop With United From San Francisco to Montréal Starting July 1

On Canada Day, July 1, 2024, United will launch a new nonstop service to Montréal from its West Coast hub at SFO.

The route will operate year-round on a daily basis with the following schedule:

  • Depart San Francisco (SFO) 11 p.m. — Arrive Montréal (YUL) 7:25 a.m. (+1)
  • Depart Montréal (YUL) 8:30 a.m. — Arrive San Francisco (SFO) 11:46 a.m.

United will deploy its fleet of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft on this transcontinental service. These jets have 16 seats in United First and 150 seats in economy.

United, along with Air Canada and Porter Airlines, will become the third airline to operate the route. Fellow Star Alliance partner Air Canada operates 2x daily nonstop flights between San Francisco and Montréal, while Porter, the regional Toronto-based carrier, recently launched a 3x weekly service between the 2 cities.

Given Air Canada’s and United’s close relationship, fares are often similar. However, on some occasions, United comes out cheaper, with the lowest economy round-trip fare displayed at $590 in August.

Rather than spending $590+, using points from your United MileagePlus account would provide great value on this route, as one-way redemptions start at 15k miles plus $5.50 in taxes and fees.

Despite United’s expansive and far-reaching route network, with the inclusion of its new route to Montréal, it only operates 4 nonstop services from San Francisco across the border to Canada.

Hot Tip:

When paying cash for a United Airlines flight, it’s worth considering using a credit card like the United Club℠ Infinite Card to make your purchase. For example, this card would earn you 4x miles per $1 spent on United purchases.

Final Thoughts

United is building out its transborder network to Canada this summer by adding a nonstop, year-round service to the bustling cultural metropolis of Montréal. Given the popularity of both cities as tourist destinations, the route has a high chance of proving a success for United.
