Universal may be busy putting the final touches on Epic Universe in Florida, but that doesn’t mean things have slowed down with its brand-new, kid-friendly resort over in Texas.

Universal Kids Resort is scheduled to open in 2026, and we now know more about what lands and characters guests can expect to see there.

From Jurassic World to SpongeBob SquarePants, fans of all ages, but especially the younger ones, have a lot to look forward to.

Let’s take a look at the latest.

Universal Kids Resort

Universal Kids Resort is an all-new theme park that will open in Frisco, Texas, in 2026.

Families with young children should especially look forward to the resort’s opening, as it has been specifically designed and developed for the whole family, with special attention paid to the youngest ones.

It’s an amazing opportunity to bring these iconic stories to life for kids and families to experience, interact with and play together. At each point, we considered how we could design a place especially for kids where they could explore, imagine and adventure with their families and friends. They’ll be able to do all this while being fully immersed in some of their favorite stories – ones full of curiosity, laughter and joy.

Sarah Gibbon, VP & executive producer, Universal Creative

Universal Kids Resort will be “a whole universe built just for kids.” It will include a 300-room hotel and 6 immersive themed lands packed with character meet-and-greets, interactive shows, and, of course, kid-friendly rides.

Themed Lands

We now know that Universal Kids Resort will feature 6 themed lands based on some of the most iconic and beloved franchises in the Comcast NBCUniversal portfolio.

At Universal Kids Resort, children will have the opportunity to play, sing, dance and discover with some of their favorite characters. Beyond the highly-engaging attractions and shows, families will find ample areas to rest and also enjoy themed food and beverages and shop for fun character souvenirs. Each of these areas elicit wonder with a lush, colorful environment.

Dan Cuffe, Vice President and General Manager of Universal Kids Resort

From dinosaurs and ogres to cats and Minions, everyone at the resort is guaranteed to have a good time.

DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots

Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, and Perrito will be running an adoption drive, so be sure to stop by for some fun rides, sideshow games, and good food.

Plus, if you feel the need for a quick cat nap, guests can relax in the sensory garden.

DreamWorks’ Shrek

Guests can join in some ogre-sized fun in Shrek’s swamp-themed playground.

There will be places to stomp, ride, laugh, and more, all while celebrating the magic of friendship, family, and love.

DreamWorks’ Trolls

Get ready for the “most melodic, most awesome music festival” with Poppy, Branch, and the rest of the Trolls gang in a glitter fest for all ages and sizes.

This area is guaranteed to be full of color, glitter, and plenty of signing.

Illumination’s Minions

When Minions are involved, you know it will be chaotic. Minions in the Texas heat at least come with some water-soaked fun.

Join in or watch as the Yellow Minions try to rein in their Purple counterparts. As you might imagine, laughs, splashes, and surprises are guaranteed.

Jurassic World

Little explorers will love to come face-to-face with their favorite Jurrasic World dinosaurs.

This fun and interactive adventure, created especially for younger guests, promises to be “both exhilarating and awe-inspiring.”

Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants

An instant classic, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick, Sandy Cheeks, and Squidward will be in the resort to give guests a tour of their under-the-sea neighborhood.

Kids and families will be able to relax on the beach, earn a boating license, and enjoy all of the nautical silliness that we have come to love from SpongeBob and friends.

Hot Tip:

There will be a central park hub with DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse that will include a play area, meet-and-greet, and shady lawns for families to rest and recharge.

Final Thoughts

Universal Kids Resort is well underway and is scheduled to open in 2026.

We now know that there will be six themed lands, including Jurassic World, Minions, Puss in Boots, Shrek, SpongeBob, Trolls, and more.

This all-new theme park is sure to be a hit with families of young children.
