Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Hotels brand is making its mark in Scotland with the opening of its property in Glasgow. Virgin Hotels Glasgow has become the second Virgin property in Europe and the brand’s eighth worldwide.

Here’s everything that you need to know about the debut.

Virgin Hotels Glasgow Opens Its Doors

On August 21, 2023, Virgin Hotels, the luxury lifestyle hospitality brand from Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, officially opened its latest location in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 240-room property is situated on the iconic Clydebank on Clyde Street in the heart of Glasgow with public areas featuring open floor plans, velvet chairs, and sweeping views of the city. At the heart of the hotel is Commons Club, Virgin Hotels Glasgow’s flagship restaurant that serves up eclectic food and beverage. Upstairs on the mezzanine level of Commons Club is Highyard, a dining and entertainment venue with a retractable roof.

Each room at the hotel, which Virgin calls “chambers,” includes wood-sliding doors to separate the sleep and relaxation areas, giving guests maximum privacy. There’s a signature Virgin-red SMEG minifridge stocked with local products, plugs in all the convenient places, an HDTV, and a yoga mat.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to announce the opening of Virgin Hotels Glasgow, our second European location,” said Richard Branson in a written statement. “With Virgin Hotels Glasgow, we aimed to capture Glasgow’s unique spirit, offering visitors and locals an unparalleled experience.”

How To Book Virgin Hotels Glasgow

While Virgin Hotels is part of the Virgin Red loyalty program, it’s not yet possible to redeem Virgin points for stays (except for one-off promotions that sometimes appear on this page).

Virgin says that “redemptions for stays at Virgin Hotels will be coming in 2024.” Once that happens, it should be possible to transfer and book Virgin Hotels with the major transferable currencies: Chase Ultimate RewardsCapital One Miles, American Express Membership RewardsMarriott Bonvoy, and Citi ThankYou Rewards.

Final Thoughts

This latest opening in Glasgow is part of a concerted push from the Virgin Group for a luxury lifestyle presence in select cities around the world.

The current Virgin portfolio includes eight hotels: Chicago, Dallas, Edinburgh, Las Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City, and now, Glasgow. In addition, new locations will debut in Miami and Denver in 2025, and the brand will also launch Virgin Residences.
