Delta Air Lines will launch nonstop service between the U.S. and an island destination in southern Europe next summer — but it hasn’t decided which island it is yet.

It’s leaving the decision up to its SkyMiles members, who will vote on Ibiza, Malta, and Sardinia as the airline’s newest European destination for Summer 2026.

Let’s take a look at everything you need to know!

Delta SkyMiles Members Can Choose the Airline’s Next European Destination

Starting next week, Delta SkyMiles members will have the unique opportunity to vote on which European island destination Delta should fly to next summer.

The 3 options are:

  • Ibiza, Spain (IBZ)
  • Malta (MLA)
  • Sardinia, Italy (CAG, OLB, or AHO)

Voting will open on August 25 and close on August 29, 2025, and it will be done through the Delta mobile app (iOS, Android). Whichever destination is chosen, it will be served from Delta’s hub in New York (JFK).

None of these destinations is currently served nonstop by a U.S. carrier. Still, they are all hotspots in Southern Europe. This region has seen a crush of U.S. travelers in recent years, who continue to flock to the area to explore the beaches, take in the local culture, and embrace the slow pace of life the Mediterranean is so famous for.

Regardless of which destination wins the battle, it will be exciting news for U.S. flyers. They will have another new opportunity to fly nonstop to a destination that previously wouldn’t have been considered for nonstop flights to the U.S.

However, this strategy reflects a recent trend in the industry that has seen U.S. carriers add service to numerous secondary, leisure-focused areas that have surged in popularity. For example, Delta recently added nonstop flights between New York and Catania (CTA) on the island of Sicily.

And competitor United has been even more aggressive in adding these markets, including Bilbao (BIO) and Mallorca (PMI), Spain, among others.

Final Thoughts

Delta’s giving its SkyMiles members a say in its network planning. Next week, members can vote for the carrier’s next blockbuster European summer destination. Where will you choose: Ibiza, Malta, or Sardinia?

Given the crop of contenders, we won’t be disappointed at all, regardless of the winner.
