Just in time for the start of the FIFA World Cup 2022, Hilton has announced the opening of the brand-new Waldorf Astoria Lusail, Doha in the Qatari capital.

Speaking about the opening, General Manager Chris Franzen said the “Waldorf Astoria Lusail, Doha will be a coveted location for internationally acclaimed dining concepts, best-in-class facilities, and bespoke service. The property is set to redefine luxury on the peninsula and will no doubt be a prestigious address in the heart of Lusail.”

Let’s dive into the details of this all-new luxury resort!

Situated just 10 minutes from Doha’s central business district and about 20 minutes from the city’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) in the area of Lusail, this new Waldorf Astoria is located in the anticipated “Entertainment City” district, just in front of the Persian Gulf.

The hotel boasts a whopping 429 guest rooms, suites, and 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments in front of over 650 feet of private beach.

In addition, guests can expect a restaurant and beach club from the internationally acclaimed chain Sushisamba, an outpost of New York Italian hotspot Scarpetta, a “contemporary brasserie,” and more. It’ll also have a concept called The Highmore, an exclusive club “inspired by an original members-only London club and designed with the ultra-luminary in mind,” according to the Qatar Tribune.

The Waldorf Astoria Lusail, Doha should appeal to travelers of all ages, as it features 3 swimming pools (1 for adults, 1 for families, and 1 for children), a FlowRider surfing simulator, a waterpark, dedicated teen and children’s areas, and more.

Adults will love the Middle East’s first ESPA Life, which features 19 treatment rooms, hydrotherapy facilities, a salon, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and more.

Qatar’s Luxury Hotel Boom

The small Persian Gulf nation of Qatar has experienced somewhat of a luxury hotel boom in recent months and years, likely attributable to the nation hosting this year’s FIFA World Cup.

Several brands have opened in recent months — or will open imminently — around the Qatari capital, including  The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, The Pearl Qatar, Wyndham Grand Doha West Bay, Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha, Fairmont Doha, and Raffles Doha, adding thousands of rooms for luxury travelers to book when visiting the city.

While the area has historically been no stranger to luxury hotels, the arrival of the World Cup caused a number of brands to take note of the opportunity, and they rushed to plant their flags around the capital to capitalize on it.
