The Wells Fargo Rewards program allows users to pool their points earned across multiple cards and displays that number as a combined balance — all in 1 place for convenience.

However, the San Francisco-based bank is emailing cardholders to advise them of an upcoming change to how points pooling is handled.

The feature remains intact, and there will be no changes to your ability to use your points. However, the presentation and functionality will change slightly. Here’s what you need to know.

Wells Fargo Tweaks Points Pooling From September 25

Wells Fargo has sent email communications to cardholders informing them of an upcoming change in how it handles points pooling.

Right now, if you hold multiple Wells Fargo credit cards that earn rewards, the total sum of your Wells Fargo Rewards points is displayed as a single, combined figure.

After this change, you’ll still be able to move points between eligible credit card accounts. Screenshot: Wells Fargo website

However, come September 25, 2026, the issuer is making a slight change to how rewards are displayed. From that date on, you will see a separate rewards balance for each of your eligible cards.

This won’t change your total balance of Wells Fargo Rewards points, and you’ll still be able to move points between different card accounts. However, instead of seeing a single cumulative balance, you’ll see multiple.

Cardholders won’t have to do anything in their account settings. This change will happen automatically on September 25.

Wells Fargo Rewards has a decent list of transfer partners to which you can direct your points, though we’d like to see it expand the options if it truly wants to compete with the likes of American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Currently, you can transfer points to 11 airline and hotel partners. It does cover several major airline options, including Air France-KLM Flying Blue, The British Airways Club, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, and more, but the hotel side is certainly lacking a bit with only Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards available.

Final Thoughts

Functionally, nothing is changing with your Wells Fargo Rewards points. However, the bank is changing the way your points are displayed in your online account.

When you see a change on September 25, rest assured that your points are all still there, you can still transfer them between accounts, and you can still transfer them to partners. However, you will no longer see a single combined balance and may need to take an extra step — combining your points together — before redeeming them.
