After an extensive renovation and rebrand of the former Le Méridien Bora Bora, Marriott has opened the all-new Westin Bora Bora Resort & Spa in French Polynesia.

This development is great news for Marriott loyalists, who now have a great new option for earning and redeeming points in one of the world’s most sought-after travel destinations.

Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting new property.

The Westin Bora Bora Boasts 128 Overwater Bungalows

The first new resort to open in Bora Bora since 2017, The Westin Bora Bora Resort & Spa is situated to provide stunning views of the iconic Mount Otemanu and should be a hit, especially with award travelers.

This property has the largest number of overwater bungalows in all of Bora Bora. Many of the 128 bungalows have private plunge pools, while all of the bungalows provide views of the lagoon, the island, or Mount Otemanu. Each was designed with privacy in mind, as well, and they’re arranged such that you won’t be peering into your neighbor’s bungalow — and they won’t be staring into yours.

In addition to the overwater bungalows, the resort also features beach villas, including several that are designed specifically for families.

Property Amenities

Guests can expect plenty to keep them occupied at the new Westin Bora Bora Resort & Spa.

To start, there are 6 outposts for eating and drinking, all of which pride themselves on using fresh, local ingredients and inspiration:

  • Tipanier is the resort’s all-day restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It focuses on serving French Polynesian favorites.
  • Maere is the property’s signature restaurant, and its menu changes constantly, based on the freshness of certain ingredients.
  • Varavara is a relaxed beachfront restaurant that focuses on fine dining, including steaks, seafood, and inventive cocktails.
  • Honu Tiki is a fun beach bar that serves all sorts of tropical drinks along with lighter snacks and meals.
  • Te Ava boasts a swim-up bar and incredible views of the island of Bora Bora.
  • ‘O’a Bar is this hotel’s lobby bar that offers signature cocktails in an outdoor atmosphere conducive to watching the sunset over Mount Otemanu.

This resort offers an entire “wellness area” with both the Heavenly Spa and the Westin Workout Fitness Studio. Additionally, guests can partake in numerous outdoor activities, including exploring the lagoon via stand-up paddle board or kayak, beach volleyball, yoga, water yoga, Strava biking routes around the property, and much more.

How To Book

The Westin Bora Bora Resort & Spa participates in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, which means members can earn and redeem points for stays.

As this property is located in one of the world’s most desirable locations, you can expect to pay quite a bit for a stay here: Room rates start around $1,000 per night.

Of course, you can use points for an award stay at this property. However, at the time of writing, availability is sparse. If you are able to find dates with award availability, you can expect to pay at least 74,000 points per night.

Luckily, it’s relatively easy to earn Marriott Bonvoy pointsMarriott offers several co-branded credit cards, all of which offer solid welcome bonuses. You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards and American Express Membership Rewards points to Marriott at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

Marriott fans should be delighted that they have a brand-new option for earning and redeeming points in one of the world’s most desirable destinations. While Marriott technically hasn’t added to its net number of properties in Bora Bora, the former Le Méridien was a pretty steep step down from the ultra-luxe St. Regis Bora Bora Resort.

Now, with the opening of The Westin Bora Bora Resort & Spa, there’s a desirable option that isn’t completely out of the stratosphere when it comes to cost, especially if you can redeem points for your stay.

We can’t wait to check out this new property for ourselves.
