Soon, there will be a new nonstop flight connecting “Winterpeg” in Canada with “Hotlanta” in the heart of the American South.

Canada’s second-largest airline WestJet has just announced that its first nonstop flight between Winnipeg, Manitoba (YWG) and Atlanta, Georgia (ATL) will go wheels up on September 6, 2023.

Here are all the details you should know about this exciting new transborder route that’s coming this fall.

Nonstop Service Between Atlanta and Winnipeg Coming This September

When WestJet launches nonstop service between Winnipeg and Atlanta in September, the airline will serve a total of 6 U.S. cities with nonstop flights from Manitoba’s capital city.

This means it will serve just 2 fewer cities from Winnipeg than it does from its second-largest hub at Toronto-Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

The nonstop flight will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays according to the following schedule:

  • Depart Winnipeg (YWG) 9 a.m. — Arrive Atlanta (ATL) 1:09 p.m.
  • Depart Atlanta (ATL) 2 p.m. — Arrive Winnipeg (YWG) 4:20 p.m.

Thanks to a codeshare agreement between WestJet and Delta Air Lines, those living in Winnipeg will be able to connect to more Delta flights than ever through its biggest hub, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, which also happens to be the world’s busiest airport.

When the new service commences, WestJet will become the only airline to operate nonstop service between the 2 cities.

“This is great news for Winnipeg,” said Scott Gillingham, mayor of Winnipeg. “Having a direct flight to the busiest airport in the world strengthens our global connectivity and opens up new opportunities for tourism, trade, immigration, and economic growth.”

WestJet frequent flyers will also be able to earn WestJet Rewards and use any elite benefits they’re entitled to on itineraries connecting onto Delta flights in Atlanta.

WestJet’s new service to Atlanta joins the recently-inaugurated nonstop from Winnipeg to Los Angeles (LAX) and showcases its dedication to improving connections from Manitoba to the rest of North America and the world.

Bottom Line:

WestJet is Canada’s second-largest carrier, and it continues to increase its presence in the U.S. This year alone, the airline has announced a total of 7 new transborder routes as well as the resumption of 3 more that were paused due to the pandemic.

Final Thoughts

WestJet’s new transborder service will be most welcome by those living in Winnipeg and throughout the province of Manitoba thanks to the whole world of new connection possibilities that nonstop service to Atlanta will provide them.
