WestJet has announced a slew of new and returning routes for the summer.
Focusing on its hubs in Calgary and Edmonton, the airline will be increasing connectivity regionally, domestically, and across the U.S./Canada border.
“We are thrilled to be expanding our network and giving our guests substantial opportunity to explore the U.S., and Canada from coast-to-coast this summer,” said Alexis von Hoensbroech, CEO at WestJet Group.
Here are the details about WestJet’s huge network expansion.
WestJet’s Big Plans for Summer 2023
Included in the announcement are no less than 25 routes comprising 15 service resumptions, a mixture of 10 new transborder and domestic routes, and 3 brand-new destinations for the Calgary-based carrier.
Transborder Services
The most notable routes are WestJet’s upcoming services to Detroit (DTW), Minneapolis (MSP), and Washington-Dulles (IAD), which will be completely new destinations for the airline.
The details are as follows:
Route | Start Date | Frequency |
Calgary (YYC) to Detroit (DTW) | May 26, 2023 | Mondays, Tuesdays (from June 27, 2023), Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays (from June 18, 2023) |
Edmonton (YEG) to Minneapolis (MSP) | June 2, 2023 | Mondays, Tuesdays (from June 13, 2023), Wednesdays (from June 14, 2023) Thursdays, and Fridays |
Calgary (YYC) to Washington-Dulles (IAD) | June 2, 2023 | Mondays, Wednesdays (from June 14, 2023), and Fridays |
When the above routes inaugurate, WestJet will be the only carrier to offer nonstop service between each of the city pairs.
Thanks to the close relationship between WestJet and Delta Air Lines, passengers will be able to connect seamlessly on 1-stop itineraries through Delta’s hubs in Detroit and Minneapolis.
There will also be new services to some of WestJet’s existing U.S. destinations, including:
Route | Start Date | Frequency |
Edmonton (YEG) to Seattle (SEA) | May 19, 2023 | Mondays (from May 29, 2023), Wednesdays (from June 28, 2023), Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays |
Vancouver (YVR) to Atlanta (ATL) | May 17, 2023 | Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays |
Vancouver (YVR) to Nashville (BNA) | May 19, 2023 | Mondays and Fridays |
But that’s not all — WestJet will also be resuming the following 3 previously-served transborder routes:
- Calgary to Austin (AUS) — from May 18, 2023
- Calgary to Chicago (ORD) — from May 18, 2023
- Vancouver to Orlando (MCO) — from May 6, 2023
Canadian Domestic Services
The carrier will also bolster its trans-Canadian service with the addition of 4 new routes which were all previously unserved:
