Qatar Airways has a generous baggage allowance for flights that uses the weight concept (all flights excluding to/from the Americas). The allowance for economy passengers is either 66 pounds (30 kg) or 99 pounds (45 kg), depending on the route.

Although this allowance is generous, be sure not to get stung by Qatar Airways’ pricey excess fees that are charged per kilogram and can add up quickly!

Where will you be traveling to and from? Some routes with Qatar work on a piece allowance and other work on a weight allowance.

I’m traveling from Doha to Karachi. Do I get 40kg of baggage? I already have a ticket for 30kg baggage, but do I receive 40kg of baggage without any extra cost? In the last 5 years I was getting 40kg but due to the pandemic they said they would only offer 30kg.

If the baggage allowance printed on your ticket is 40kgs then that should be correct. If need be you can always call Qatar to clarify as well. Safe travels!

    • Hi Niloo,

Depending on the route, the Qatar baggage allowance uses either a piece or weight concept. Flights between Kuwait and Iran fall under the weight concept, which is why the allowance is 30kg.

I’ll fly to Bangladesh from Chicago O’hare airport. One of my luggage dimensions, including wheels, is 68.7 inches. But the weight is 23kg. Should I have to pay extra an extra fee? If so, how much?

    Reply

    • Hi Mominul,

If they decide to measure your bag then you might have to pay an oversized bag fee. Unfortunately, Qatar does not list the charge for oversized bags on their website, so you would need to call to get that information.

    Reply

    • Hi Victor,

Since your two bags exceed the 30kg weight limit, yes you will be charged extra. As for your personal items, you should not be charged extra for those since all passengers are allowed to have a personal item like a laptop bag.
