Hainan Airlines has a fairly standard baggage allowance for most international flights, but for routes to and from the U.S., first and business passengers are limited to only 1 carry-on piece rather than the usual 2 items most airlines permit
It is, however, quite a generous weight allowance for hand luggage: up to 22 pounds (10 kg).

Hainan Airlines Carry-on Allowance:
Domestic routes plus Luanda, Maldives and Okinawa
- 1 personal item: FREE
- 1 standard carry-on bag: Free for economy passengers
- 2 standard carry-on bags: Free for first and business class passengers

- Standard: 21.5 x 15.7 x 7.9 inches (55 x 40 x 20 cm). Maximum weight for each item is 11 pounds (5 kg)
International routes

Lap Infant Carry-on Policy
- When traveling with a lap infant, a light collapsible stroller and baby carrier can be brought as a carry-on provided each item does not exceed the maximum weight allowance of 22 pounds (10 kg)
Stroller Gate Check Policy
- In addition to the free checked baggage allowance, transportation of a fully collapsible stroller is free of charge as checked baggage.

U.S., Canada, and Mexico routes (maximum linear size of 62 inches/158 cm):
- Business class: 2 pieces not exceeding 70 pounds (32 kg)
- Economy class: 2 pieces not exceeding 50 pounds (23 kg)
European routes (maximum linear size of 62 inches/158 cm):
- Business class: 2 pieces not exceeding 70 pounds (32 kg)
- Economy class: 1 piece not exceeding 50 pounds (23 kg)
Hot Tip: These allowances exclude routes between Beijing-Prague, Shenzhen-Madrid, and flights to Russia, where economy passengers are permitted to bring 2 x 50 pound/23 kg bags, and business class passengers can bring 2 x 70 pound/32 kg bags.
Africa and Western Asia routes (maximum size of 15.7 x 23.6 x 39 inches (40 × 60 × 100 cm) and maximum weight of 70 pounds (32 kg) per piece:

Domestic routes
Overweight baggage is charged at 1.5% of the Hainan Airlines’ highest published one-way fare in economy depending on the travelling direction.

Can I Pre-pay for Baggage?
Hainan Airlines does allow passengers the ability to pre-pay for luggage online up to 24 hours before departure.
Passengers need to log in to their booking from the ‘Pre-paid baggage’ page on the Hainan Airlines website to do this.
Exclusions & Waivers
Certain routes allow frequent flyers additional free baggage:
- Silver Card: 20 kg additional (weight concept) or 1 extra piece (piece concept)
- Gold Card: 30 kg additional (weight concept) or 1 extra piece (piece concept)
- Platinum Card: 30 kg additional (weight concept) or 1 extra piece (piece concept)
