I recently returned from a 3-night stay at Dreams Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort, just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Since this was a family-friendly resort, I brought my 11-year-old daughter and husband.

This was my second stay at a Dreams Resorts hotel, and I love the Puerto Vallarta area, so I was really excited for this weekend getaway in Mexico.

Let’s jump into my review of Dreams Bahia Mita, including my 5 favorite things about the resort.

Dreams Bahia Mita at a Glance

Dreams Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort is a family-friendly, all-inclusive resort just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It’s about 40 to 50 minutes from Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) and just 5 minutes from another resort I stayed at this year, W Punta de Mita.

On Banderas Bay, it has 421 suites, and everything is included without the need to wear a wristband, something many other all-inclusive resorts require.

There are 8 places to eat and 6 bars at the resort, and everything is included. Overall, I thought the food was pretty good. It wasn’t the absolute best food I have had at an all-inclusive resort, but it was well above average.

There were always different options available, and I appreciated that there were plenty of kid-friendly choices wherever we went. My favorite meal was our room-service breakfast on the morning we had to leave. I take any opportunity to order chilaquiles, and these were delicious.

1. You Can Book It With World of Hyatt Points

Dreams Resorts is a family-friendly, all-inclusive brand within the Hyatt portfolio. You’ll often find its adults-only counterpart, Secret Resorts, in the same locations, and both brands can be booked with World of Hyatt points.

The Dreams Bahia Mita is a Hyatt all-inclusive Category C hotel, which costs between 21,000 and 29,000 Hyatt points per night for up to 2 people. Additional guests, Club upgrades, and suite upgrades are available for an additional cost.

Being able to book a standard room here (for up to 2 people) for just 25,000 points per night is excellent. Not only is it a beautiful hotel with amenities like a water park, multiple pools, and a beach, but all food and drinks are included. Plus, there aren’t any resort fees.

If you pay for your stay in cash to earn lots of Hyatt points, be sure to use a card that adds bonuses for hotel or Hyatt spending. You earn 4 points per $1 on The World of Hyatt Credit Card. Or you can earn 4 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per $1 (which can be transferred directly to Hyatt) on the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

2. There Is a Water Park at the Resort

One of my favorite features of Dreams Bahia Mita was the on-site water park. This was in a separate area from the main pools but still right on the property. We spent a lot of time on the 3 main waterslides and had a blast trying them all out.

One of the things that surprised me was that the waterslides didn’t open until 11 a.m., so keep that in mind to avoid showing up with eager kids at 9 a.m. on Day 1!

There was a separate pool area with a pirate ship water feature that had slides suitable for younger kids.

This pirate ship play area was great for little kids.

There were even 2 waterslides in one of the main pools that were sort of an in-between size. My daughter loved these, but sadly, adults weren’t allowed.

Hot Tip:

Dreams Bahia Mita is a big resort, so you may have to do a lot of walking to get where you want to go. While I loved our ocean views and balcony with morning shade, it was quite a hike to reach the water park.

3. There Was a Zip Line and Ropes Course

As much as I love pool time, it’s nice to have an activity to break up the day, so I loved that there was a zip line and ropes course on the property. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip.

We loved the zip line and ropes course.

Our guides, Abisai and Alfredo, made sure we felt safe and had a great time. The activity included 2 traditional zip lines, a series of high rope bridges, the zip bike, and a freefall.

The zip line course at Dreams Bahia Mita isn’t included but can be booked for $75 per person (restricted to ages 10 and up, 99 to 240 pounds).

4. The Spa Was as Beautiful as It Was Relaxing

I absolutely loved the spa at Dreams Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort.

It is beneath an enormous bowl-shaped waterfall, which transforms into an immersive art experience at night with different projections under the sheets of water. It’s quite striking from both above and below.

The spa’s pretreatment waiting area, post-treatment relaxation area, and most of the hydrotherapy areas are outside, so you can look out from behind the waterfall. It’s really cool and totally unique.

The hydrotherapy experience includes the sauna, steam room, various interactions with water jets, and, finally, a hot and cold plunge.

I liked that it was guided but didn’t feel rushed. My spa attendant explained what I would be doing and then left so I could go at my own pace. She even brought me fruit-infused water and snacks midway through the experience. It was delightful.

5. Rooms Were Modern and Spacious

I stayed in a Preferred Club Junior Suite Panoramic View room. It was on the second floor close to the ocean, so we had really nice views of the water and pools. The room itself was spacious and modern, decorated in warm, neutral tones. We had 2 queen-size beds, a large dresser with a TV, a small sofa, 2 chairs, and a table.

Our balcony had 2 chairs and a table. It was in the shade in the morning, so it was the perfect spot to have coffee. There was also a plunge pool that felt more like a Whirlpool tub without a faucet. It was filled about halfway with cool water, so it wasn’t useful to us. This was the only real miss for me in the room.

Our bathroom had a large shower, a separate toilet, and double sinks. It was almost identical to the bathroom layout at Dreams Mazatlan.

It’s always good to have double sinks when traveling with family.

The shower was large.

We had Preferred Club access but didn’t take advantage of any of the benefits. I got to see the Preferred Club lounge during my resort tour, and it featured a small but well-presented food spread, a nice coffee machine, and an upgraded bar. However, it was so far away from my room that it wasn’t worth the effort to go there.

This would be a great perk for guests staying in nearby rooms.

Final Thoughts

It has a water park, a zip line course, multiple pools, 8 restaurants, 6 bars, and direct beach access. This was my second stay at a Dreams Resorts location, and I am quickly falling in love with the brand.
