What You Should Know About Staying at the Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo [Review]

During a recent trip to the Dominican Republic’s capital, I spent 2 nights at the Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo.

I got great value when using my points here in mid-April 2026, and there were many positives to my stay. Highlights include the staff and my upgrade to a suite.

Here’s what you should know about staying at this property.

Booking Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo

The Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo charged $206 per night, including taxes and fees, for a standard room during my mid-April stay. Suites started around $280 after taxes.

The hotel participates in the World of Hyatt loyalty program, so it’s possible to redeem Hyatt points here — doing so is a great idea.

This is a Category 2 hotel in Hyatt’s program, costing 8,000 points per night during my stay. Saving $206 by using 8,000 points meant I used my Hyatt points at nearly 2.6 cents each, well above our average valuation of Hyatt points at 1.5 cents apiece.

Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo Location

The Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo is on the west side of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. It’s in the Piantini neighborhood of the Evaristo Morales area near various shops and restaurants, about 30 minutes from the historic colonial area of Santo Domingo. Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), the city’s airport, is east of the city, and it takes about 1 hour by taxi to reach the hotel from the airport.

Reception Wasn’t on the Ground Floor

The hotel’s entrance is tucked behind the patio seating at the restaurant Casa Luca and shares an entrance with an office building. On arrival, guests pass through this lobby and take the elevator to the second floor, where reception is located.

Food and Beverage Outlets Were Varied

The hotel had several dining and drinking options, with 2 near the lobby.

Aon

Aon was the hotel’s main restaurant, located to the right when facing the check-in desk.

It served breakfast from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. on weekdays but 6:30 to 11 a.m. on weekends. Aon was open for lunch and dinner from noon to midnight, though the kitchen closed at 10:30 p.m. each night.

Aon offered a mix of Dominican and international fare. I had breakfast here both mornings.

Breakfast options included fruits, cold cuts, cereals, yogurts, and lots of pastries. There were also multiple types of bread, hot dishes like scrambled eggs and sausages, and made-to-order breakfast sandwiches. Juices, tea, and coffee were also available.

Hot Tip:

There were no signs about allergens, and vegan options were extremely limited.

Burble

Burble was the hotel’s rooftop bar, open from 10 a.m. daily. It closed at 6 p.m. on Sundays but stayed open until 11 p.m. on other nights.

The main bar and some outdoor seating were covered by a partial roof, while other seating was uncovered. There was also more seating available inside, between the elevator and the outdoor area.

Duho

As the hotel’s lobby bar, Duho sat between reception and Aon. It was open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Amenities Were Good, but Not Abundant

Rooftop Pool

Found on the 11th floor, the rooftop pool was near Burble and offered some nice views over the city. There were steps required to reach the pool deck, and in-water loungers were available to get sun while feeling cool.

Gym

The hotel’s gym wasn’t large, but it didn’t feel cramped and had a good amount of equipment. There were racks of free weights, some multifunction machines, and cardio equipment like treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes. The fitness center also had exercise balls, mats, towels, and drinking water.

Upgrade to a Premiere Suite Was Great

Since I have Hyatt Globalist status, I received a complimentary room upgrade to a Premiere Suite. I saw this reflected in my Hyatt app before arrival, and staff mentioned it during check-in.

I loved the location of my upgraded room, as it was the only room in a small nook at the end of the hallway. I never heard or saw anyone passing my room.

Entry Closet

Immediately inside the suite, I had a closet with a sliding, mirrored door. There were shelves and hangers here, as well as a steamer, safe, minibar, a kettle, bath robes, and slippers.

Living Room

The entry hallway opened to the living room, including a small table flanked by a sofa and a pair of armchairs. The living room had a lot of space and floor-to-ceiling windows. There was a TV on the wall opposite the sofa.

A wooden desk and a chair were in the far corner. The desk had a small lamp with outlets, and I found the room service menu here.

Bedroom

My suite had a large, spacious bedroom with a comfortable king bed and more floor-to-ceiling windows. The curtains weren’t automated and had long plastic sticks for closing them. There was a TV on the wall across from the bed, and there was an armchair with a small table in the corner. The opposite corner had a large, round post.

Each side of the bed had a nightstand, lamp, and multiple types of outlets: Type B, USB-A, and USB-C. The left side of the bed also had a clock. There was a closet behind the door, offering an iron, an ironing board, a steamer, a safe, and a folding luggage rack, plus storage and hangers.

Bathroom

The bathroom had 3 sections, entering in the middle section. Here, I found a sink with lots of counter space and tons of extra towels on shelves underneath. There was a backlit mirror on the wall and a close-up mirror on an adjustable arm. On the counter, drinking glasses, tissues, individually wrapped toiletries, and pump bottles of lotion and soap were available.

Turning left led to a small room with the toilet inside. Turning right led to the walk-in shower. The shower had both handheld and rainfall options, and it was very spacious.

Service Was Friendly

I genuinely liked every employee at this hotel. From check-in to checkout, employees were friendly, smiled authentically, and offered help proactively.

At breakfast, staff offered coffee, tea, and espresso-based drinks, and they brought my latte efficiently both mornings. While I was waiting for an Uber Eats order, the staff asked what I was looking for and offered help, even though they didn’t know exactly what I needed.

At the reception desk, employees were friendly while explaining my benefits and answering my questions about this relatively new property.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed the 2 nights I spent at the Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo. It opened 2 years before my stay, but the property still felt very new.

Service was friendly, the location was good, and the amenities were quality, even if there weren’t many of them. I also loved my upgraded suite.

This is a property I would gladly visit again.
