I first encountered the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa several years ago when it became popular among travel bloggers. From the feedback I’ve received and the reviews I’ve read, it always appeared to be a fantastic spot for families to have a great time together during their visit to San Antonio, Texas.

In addition to featuring a variety of exciting activities, such as a waterpark with a lazy river and waterslide, cozy fire pits for roasting s’mores, and beautiful hiking trails, the resort is perfectly situated to enjoy everything San Antonio has to offer.

I finally had the opportunity to visit the popular 502-room Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa with my family in late March 2025. Here’s what you can look forward to when you visit this expansive resort.

Booking Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa

Before I planned my trip to San Antonio, I knew that if I ever visited the city, I would stay at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa. I got the impression it’s a great family-friendly property just outside the heart of San Antonio.

Right after booking flights, I checked to see if there was availability for redeeming World of Hyatt points and found consecutive award nights for my 3-night stay for 20,000 points per night.

For a Category 5 hotel in the World of Hyatt program, the number of points required for a free night varies based on peak and off-peak pricing:

  • Off-peak: 17,000 points per night
  • Standard: 20,000 points per night
  • Peak: 23,000 points per night

You can stay at the resort for as few as 17,000 points per night during off-peak dates. Image Credit: Hyatt

Cash rates vary between $250 and $500 per night. While we were there in late March, the nightly rates for a standard room with 2 queen beds started at $379, making this an ideal opportunity to use my Hyatt points.

On average, this resort commands nightly rates starting at around $250 per night. Image Credit: Hyatt

I had a Suite Upgrade Award (SUA) available from my top-tier World of Hyatt Globalist status. I applied it to my reservation and was happy to be upgraded from a standard room with 2 queen beds to the Hill Country Suite at booking.

Two days before checking in, the hotel emailed me to welcome me, thank me for my Globalist status, and ask if I had any questions before arriving. Out of curiosity, I inquired whether any other suites were available besides the Hill Country Suite we had upgraded to.

The next day, I received an email informing me that I had been upgraded to a larger 753-square-foot Hospitality Suite. This suite included a standard room with 2 queen beds connected to a big parlor with a Murphy bed, a living and dining room, a wet bar, a full bath, and a patio.

During my stay, the Hospitality Suites cost over $1,440 per night. We were upgraded from a 392-square-foot room to a spacious 753-square-foot connecting suite, which provided plenty of extra room for my family.

Our Hospitality Suite went for more than $1,400 per night during our visit! Image Credit: Hyatt

We value Hyatt points at 1.5 cents each, so when I redeemed points at 20,000 per night and applied my Suite Upgrade Award, my redemption resulted in a value of more than 7 cents per point — not too shabby!

Hyatt also has the Category 3 Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk, Category 3 Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk, and Category 5 Thompson San Antonio – Riverwalk in San Antonio. Those are located downtown, and my goal was to enjoy a resort-like stay with my family for 3 nights while visiting the area.

Hot Tip:

If you’re considering a stay at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa and would like to pay cash, be sure to use one of the best credit cards for World of Hyatt loyalists.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa Location

The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa is in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, just northwest of downtown San Antonio.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Exterior Front
The resort is conveniently located less than 30 minutes from the airport and downtown San Antonio.

Since there isn’t a shuttle service or many public transportation options, having a car (or taking an Uber) is a must to reach downtown attractions or the airport. I rented a car from Budget at San Antonio International Airport (SAT), saw it was 16 miles to the property, and arrived in just 25 minutes late Friday morning.

The River Walk, the city’s famous network of walkways along the San Antonio River, and the Alamo, a historic site downtown, are a 20- to 25-minute drive from the resort. Additionally, getting to the Six Flags Fiesta Texas amusement park takes 30 to 35 minutes, and SeaWorld San Antonio is only 2 miles from the hotel.

Although the resort might not have restaurants or shops within walking distance, there are many great options just a few minutes away by car.

Check-In

We arrived in San Antonio at about 10 a.m. on Friday, picked up our rental car from the airport, and went directly to the property. The 4 p.m. check-in time was hours away, but I’ve had great experiences arriving early at Hyatt hotels as a Globalist, usually finding a room ready for us.

When we got to the hotel, around 11:30 a.m., we stopped at the valet to unload our things.

We arrived hours before the resort’s official check-in time.

The bellhop kindly helped us with our luggage and told us he would take care of our bags until our room was ready.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Valet Parking
The bellhop held our bags until our room was ready.

I had a hunch that since we were assigned a Hospitality Suite and there are fewer premium room types than standard rooms, there might not be a room ready for us.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Entrance Lobby
My first impression upon entering the resort was that it was aesthetically pleasing.

The associate greeted me warmly at the check-in desk, asked for my ID, and expressed appreciation for my World of Hyatt Globalist status.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Check in Desk
The check-in desk is just behind the composite column in the center of the space.

She shared a few quick details about the property and confirmed what I had already guessed: my room wasn’t ready yet. She inquired about the best phone number to contact me and said I should expect a text when my room was ready.

My family and I took this opportunity to explore the property, and we happily continued on our way.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Balcony Seating
We strolled the grounds for hours while we waited for the front desk to inform us that our room was ready.

After a few hours of not receiving a text that our room was ready, I swung by the front desk to check on the room’s status, and I kept hearing the same answer: It was still in “dirty” status.

By 3:30 p.m., our little one was getting restless and sleepy from our early morning flight, so I let the front desk know that we were open to taking a different (smaller) room just to get settled in faster. Suddenly, the Hospitality Suite we had been anticipating became available, and we were relieved to have access to the upgraded suite.

Resort Fee

The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa charges a $45 daily resort fee for each room, which covers various services and amenities. However, you don’t have to pay the fee if you book award nights or redeem points for free night stays.

The resort fee includes amenities such as fitness center and health club access, housekeeping, Wi-Fi, in-room bottled water, coffee, a safe, laundry facilities, phone calls, pool access, and athletic facilities and equipment.

Hospitality Suite

Our Hospitality Suite at Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa had a standard 2-queen room with a spacious connecting parlor.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country side bedroom view
The resort’s Hospitality Suite had 2 queen beds and a large connecting parlor.

The suite was at the front of the property, adjacent to the parking lot and valet entrance. However, the amenities, such as the pools and lazy river, are at the rear of the property, so reaching them from the suite involves a short walk.

That said, I was more than happy to sacrifice a few seconds of a longer walk to the outside amenities. We had ample space in our Hospitality Suite for our family to relax and enjoy.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Parlor Hospitality Suite Space
For families wanting extra privacy and more space, the Hospitality Suite is a great setup.

Master Bedroom

The standard room featured 2 comfortable queen beds. While the mattresses were a bit too soft for my liking, we slept fine.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Hospitality Suite 2 Queen Beds
Our room with 2 queen beds was light and airy.

There were 3 nightstands, and each one had an outlet next to the bed for charging our electronic devices.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country nightstand
There were plenty of outlets within the 3 nightstands surrounding the beds.

In front of the 2 queen beds was a dresser with drawers and a flat-screen TV mounted on the wall.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country bedroom TV
We appreciated that each room had its own TV.

We could watch local channels and streaming options, including Netflix and Disney+. Next to the TV, there was a small table with a few coloring books on it, a nice touch for my youngest daughter to enjoy.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country round table
Coloring books were on the table when we arrived, a sweet gesture for my toddler daughter.

Since we essentially had 2 rooms, there was more than enough closet space for the 5 of us. Inside the closet were extra blankets, a few hangers, an ironing board and iron, and a safe.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country closet space inside
We had 2 large closets, so storage space was in abundance.

Each room featured a wet bar, which included a minifridge, a coffee machine with pods, cups, and an ice bucket.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country wet bar
Even the standard rooms have a small wet bar with a coffee machine and minifridge.

Inside the minifridge were 2 complimentary water bottles, and we could call the front desk to request more.

We used the minifridge to cool our beverages and place our dinner leftovers.

Master Bathroom

The room also featured a single-sink bathroom.

The bathroom sink is separate from the toilet and shower.

It had a separate room for the tub and toilet.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country bathroom
I loved the bathroom’s renovated decor, with a mix of white and mosaic tile and black fixtures.

Inside the bathroom were shower toiletries by Pharmacopia, which has a partnership with the Hyatt Regency brand.

Shower and bathroom toiletries were by Pharmacopia.

Parlor

The connected parlor made our space feel massive.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Parlor Hospitality Suite
The expansive parlor made the connecting rooms feel bigger than they were.

It also featured a lovely outdoor area with a few chairs arranged to enjoy the view of the front of the resort.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Hospitality Suite patio
Behind the glass doors was a nice little patio with chairs.

This inviting space includes a Murphy bed, a comfortable living room, a dining table, a wet bar, a patio, and an additional bathroom.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Parlor Dining Table
A few times, we ate dinner at the long table.

The Murphy bed opened from the wall for a cozy sleeping space.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Hospitality Suite Murphy Bed
The Murphy bed was convenient for a child but very uncomfortable for an adult due to the soft mattress.

My daughters took turns sleeping on it, and while it was cozy for them, the mattress was just too soft and would likely not be comfortable for an adult.

With 2 queen beds, 1 Murphy bed, and a pack-and-play for the toddler, there were plenty of ways we could configure our sleeping layout.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Pack and Play
When we walked in, there was already a pack-n-play in the room.

We also had a second TV, allowing us to dedicate it to the kids and enjoy movies and sporting events on the other.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Parlor TV and Dresser
We utilized this TV to let the kids watch whatever they wanted.

Kitchen

The kitchen area included a minifridge to keep our refreshments cool, a microwave, and a kitchen sink.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Hospitality Suite kitchen
This room felt a little like home because it had a sink, minifridge, and microwave.

We brought home leftovers from dinner a few nights, and it was great to reheat some of the food later in the in-room microwave.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Hospitality Suite microwave
The microwave was handy for reheating dinner leftovers.

This little kitchen space made the parlor area valuable for us with 3 kids.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Hospitality Suite Sink and Counter
I love farmhouse sinks, and this one reminded me of the one I have at home.

Second Bathroom

A great perk of the Hospitality Suite was having a full second bathroom. This was incredibly handy when traveling with a family.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Renovated Bathroom
A second full bathroom was vital to us, and fantastic for parents with children.
Bottom Line:

The Hospitality Suite was very spacious and ideal for our needs, especially since we were traveling with the kids. I was extremely thankful to the hotel for their proactive decision to upgrade me from a Hill Country Suite to a more spacious Hospitality Suite.

Amenities

There were plenty of amenities to keep the entire family entertained here.

Activity Pool

The resort provided a unique water experience, with various outdoor pools connected by a winding lazy river.

The waterpark is open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.

The activity pool is where all the action takes place!

This country-style lazy river was enveloped by imposing oak trees and flanked by vibrant greenery and stone walls, creating a relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere for guests.

The lazy river was heated, but some parts were colder than others.

The activity pool also featured a 2-story waterslide and a sheltered sandy beach area — perfect for kids.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Waterslide
The waterslide was popular among children and adults alike.

The activity pool also had a hot tub with a waterfall feature, where guests of all ages could relax.

Cabanas were available for rent; you can secure one by scanning the QR code by the tables in front of the cabanas.

Guests can expect a TV, refreshments, and 2 loungers as part of their cabana rental.

Crystal Lagoon Coming Soon

In addition to these water features, the resort is undergoing a nearly $20 million renovation to increase its offerings. Like the Conrad Orlando at Evermore, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa is constructing a gigantic 2.2-acre man-made lagoon as part of its expansion plans.

A 2.2-acre man-made lagoon is coming to the resort later this year.

While the Crystal Lagoon was expected to be ready by summer 2025, that timeline has now been updated to September 2025 (details on the resort enhancements can be found here).

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Construction Lagoon
Originally slated for summer 2025, the timing has been pushed back given the current state of construction progress.

Texas Pool

While this property appears to target more families with children than couples or solo travelers, it does include an adults-only pool dubbed the Texas Pool.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Adult Only Texas Pool
While the resort caters to families, there’s an adults-only pool for guests wanting a bit more quiet.

This pool offered a tranquil environment for adult guests seeking a calm retreat.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country adult pool
The adult pool was a lot quieter than the activity pool.

Often, just a handful of guests enjoyed the adults-only pool, but it’s there for those who want to escape large groups and families and relax in peace.

The adults-only pool is open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.

Kiddie Pool

Little Critter’s Corner, often known as the kiddie pool, was appropriate for the resort’s youngest guests.

There was a kiddie pool for the youngest guests.

We spent a lot of time here with our 3-year-old daughter, who played comfortably in the water with other children her size.

My toddler daughter played in the kiddie pool for hours.

The kiddie pool is only 1 foot deep, making it the safest option for parents with babies.

FlowRider

The resort featured a FlowRider, a wave simulation machine that allows guests to experience surfing and bodyboarding in a controlled environment. This machine was particularly popular among preteens and older kids.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Flowrider
Test your skills on the FlowRider, but be prepared to wipe out!

The FlowRider experience was $30 per guest for a 30-minute session. You can either book your session in advance or book it once you check in for your stay. It’s available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Fitness Center

The resort had a 24-hour-a-day fitness center with free weights, weight machines, and cardio machines.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country gym treadmills
The fitness center was compact and had all the necessary equipment to get a good workout in.

It even had a handful of Peloton bikes, which I appreciated since my wife and I try to do a Peloton ride occasionally when on vacation.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Peloton Bikes
Several Peloton bikes were available for guests to take part in a ride.

The fitness center was smaller than I had anticipated for a resort of this magnitude. However, considering the resort’s abundance of activities and its proximity to the heart of San Antonio, it never felt overly crowded.

Arcade

The resort’s arcade was right near the fitness center. One afternoon, my girls went to the arcade for a few hours, playing with the claw machines and enjoying the simulation driving game.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country arcade views
There was an arcade with both simulation and reward games.

The arcade is open from 8 a.m. until 12 a.m. every day.

Playground

The playground, also known as Pat’s Park, was one of my younger daughter’s favorite parts of our visit.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Playground sign
Sometimes, all you need is a good playground at your hotel to keep the kids happy.

Not only were there plenty of places to climb and hang, but there was also a tetherball set up, which resulted in furious competition among my older girls.

Climb, jump, or slide!

Sometimes, something as simple as a classic playground on resort grounds helps to occupy small children’s time.

Bicycle Rental

Renting bicycles and exploring the grounds was a popular on-site activity. A bicycle rack and an electronic machine were next to the playground.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Bike Rental Machine
Guests can rent bicycles by the hour, with the first hour costing $0.75 and subsequent hours costing $10.

Renting a bike costs $0.75 for the first hour and $10 for each additional hour. My older girls took advantage of this activity daily. In addition, smaller bikes, such as tricycles and bikes for younger children, were free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tricycles and smaller bikes were free of charge and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our toddler experienced riding a bike for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sand Volleyball Court

A full-size sand volleyball court was another on-site amenity.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country sand volleyball
My older daughters loved the full-sized sand volleyball court.

My older daughters are currently obsessed with volleyball, so we used this sand court for practice. I noticed guests playing volleyball anytime I walked by.

Spa

Due to renovations, the Windflower Spa near the sand volleyball court at the resort’s far end is temporarily closed to guests.

Once the renovation is complete, this building will house the new Windflower Spa.

The spa now uses guest rooms as individual treatment rooms.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Temporary Spa Treatment Rooms
Temporarily, the resort uses some guest rooms as dedicated treatment rooms for spa guests.

Signage before the hallway informed guests of the spa’s location and requested that they be quiet while traveling down it between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The Windflower Spa continues to operate and offers a range of treatments and services, including massages, facials, and salon services (a menu can be found here).

Golf

The Hill Country Golf Club of the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa boasts a picturesque 27-hole championship golf course designed by Arthur Hills and Associates.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Golf Pro Shop
Before their round, guests can check in for their tee time at the Pro Shop.

The course spans over 200 acres and features a variety of topography, including rolling meadows, verdant slopes, tree-shaded plateaus, and calm lakes and ponds.

S’mores

Every night, the resort offered a s’mores experience with various fire pits in Henry’s Hollow just in front of the playground.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country smores fire pits
Many guests took advantage of the resort’s s’mores session, which was held every night.

Guests were handed long wooden sticks to roast marshmallows as desired before returning to the resort staff to complete the s’more sandwich with graham crackers and Hershey’s chocolate.

Resort employees helped guests complete their s’more sandwich.

The temperature would decrease in the late evening, transforming this activity into an unforgettable moment we enjoyed each night.

I mean, what child doesn’t enjoy a s’more?

While specific times for s’mores vary by season, s’mores were available from 6 to 8 p.m. during our visit.

Parking

The resort offers guests the choice of self-parking or valet parking services. Self-parking is $25 per night per vehicle, and the lot is conveniently in front of the resort’s entrance.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Valet Parking Sign
Guests can decide between self-parking for $25 or valet parking for $45 per night, with in-and-out privileges.

Valet parking is available at $45 per night for each vehicle. World of Hyatt Globalists get complimentary parking at Hyatt hotels, where parking can be billed to their room. I opted for valet parking instead and tipped the valet staff a few dollars each time I picked up or dropped off my car.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is included in the resort fee, and my family and I had no issue connecting to the internet or downloading content on our phones and iPads while in our rooms or on the resort grounds.

Everyone in my family left Springhouse Cafe satisfied after breakfast.

As a World of Hyatt Globalist, the breakfast bill was waived at checkout. Thanks to my elite status, we saved several hundred dollars on breakfast as a family of 5 during our 3-night stay.

Located a quick walk from the front desk, the General Store is also where we got some snacks, like yogurt and a sandwich, when our toddler refused to eat what we had ordered her for dinner. Hyatt Regency Hill Country Outdoor Pool Bar
Guests can order a burger and beer at Vince’s.

Despite the seasonal opening, it operates solely on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., a detail I observed during our weekend stay.

Room Service

One evening, we ordered various items from the room service menu as we were exhausted from the day and wanted to stay at the resort. My wife ordered a Hill Country Caesar salad with shrimp, while my daughters shared a pesto pasta with chicken that was quite delicious.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Room Service Food
Our room service food was delicious. However, I was put off by the $20 delivery fee.

The food was prepared at Springhouse Cafe, and while it was good, I was taken aback by the $20 room service fee that was tacked onto my receipt. Although ordering room service was convenient, I think next time, I might opt for an Uber Eats order from one of the many nearby restaurants if I want to stay in.

Breakfast is served by room service from 7 to 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and all-day dining is available from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Service

Overall, the service was good. It began with a warm welcome from the valet upon arrival and proceeded with a professional front desk team.

The valet service was always pleasant and efficient, whether we requested our car, received the keys, or dropped it off. We also enjoyed brief, casual talks with the housekeeping and bar personnel. They were pleasant and good at their jobs.

Henry, who ran the omelet station in the morning at Springhouse Cafe, was undoubtedly the highlight of the service. He was courteous, conversational, and efficient, handling the high volume of guests’ requests while engaging in in-depth chatter about his and my family. He was extraordinary.

Final Thoughts

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio. I had been looking forward to visiting this lovely property, which truly met my expectations.

I thought the location just outside the heart of the city was perfect for feeling like you’re truly on vacation while still being conveniently close to downtown for when you want to look for more excitement. If I find myself back in San Antonio with my family, I would definitely choose to stay here again!
