This was my first time staying at a Lindner Hotel property, a brand with which Hyatt established a partnership in 2022. Many of these properties joined the JdV by Hyatt brand, and I was curious to see what my 1-night stay in Hamburg, Germany, would be like.

I redeemed 8,000 World of Hyatt points at an above-average value, stayed in the hip St. Pauli neighborhood, and found several positives about the hotel. However, the breakfast buffet was just average, service was inconsistent, and the list of amenities was very short. That said, there were more positives than negatives during my stay.

Here are 4 things you should know about this hotel if you’re thinking of staying here.

Location of Lindner Hotel Hamburg Am Michel

The Lindner Hotel Hamburg Am Michel is situated in western Hamburg, Germany, in the renowned St. Pauli neighborhood. The hotel is a 10- to 15-minute walk from the St. Pauli metro station on the U3 subway line, on a quiet side street off the main avenues.

The hotel’s location places it among numerous shops, cafés, and restaurants, and it is within walking distance of a huge park, a carnival, and the St. Pauli soccer team’s stadium.

Booking Lindner Hotel Hamburg Am Michel

The Lindner Hotel Hamburg Am Michel is part of the JdV by Hyatt brand — formerly known as Joie de Vivre. The hotel participates in the World of Hyatt rewards program and is a Category 2 property. This means you can book a stay for 8,000 points per night on standard nights.

For my 1-night stay in November 2025, standard rooms were available starting at $149 per night, with a final price of $157.97 after tax.

Redeeming 8,000 points to save $157.97 meant I redeemed Hyatt points at 1.97 cents each. That’s well above our average valuation of Hyatt points at 1.5 cents each, so redeeming points here provided great value.

For a more premium room, junior suites were available starting at $174 per night, while balcony suites were available for $408 (or 13,000 points), and balcony suites with a sauna in the room were available for $408 (or 16,000 points) per night.

Hot Tip:

There are several ways to earn World of Hyatt points for upcoming reservations. Along with travels, you can transfer points into your Hyatt account from Bilt Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards, or you can earn points from everyday spending on The World of Hyatt Credit Card or World of Hyatt Business Credit Card.

4 Things You Should Know About This Hotel

1. Service Was Odd but Overall Good

At check-in, I was merely beckoned to the reception desk. It wasn’t an experience I would call warm, but check-in was efficient.

The hotel’s reception desk.

I was told the hours for breakfast, but there was no mention that it was included at no cost — a guaranteed perk of my Hyatt Globalist status — until I asked to confirm. Additionally, there was no mention that my room had been upgraded. I decided not to ask about it, given that I was staying just 1 night, but I was surprised to find my room had been upgraded when I opened the door.

I stayed in a 1 King Deluxe room, which was 1 step above the standard room.

Thus, I received my complimentary breakfast and a room upgrade, but it would have been nice if they had told me about them rather than letting me discover them.

However, the welcome gift of candies waiting in my room was an appreciated gesture.

I asked for a late checkout when I went down for breakfast in the morning, and the employee at the desk said it was no problem. And when I checked out, the experience was efficient. This person even smiled, so the service ended on a high note.

2. Rooms Exceed First Impressions

My 1 King Deluxe room was on the seventh floor, the hotel’s top floor. Guest hallways had neutral tones and a small lamp near each door showing the room number.

I wouldn’t call the room luxurious, but I liked it. It didn’t give off a jaw-dropping first impression, but I realized the room had a lot to offer. The bedroom area had an efficient layout, letting me easily move around the bed without tripping on other items.

The centerpiece was a comfortable king-size bed, with each side featuring a lamp, light switches, and outlets. There was also an entrance to the bathroom near the bed, as well as the bathroom entrance near the room’s entry.

Opposite the foot of the bed, there was a large wooden desk with a fold-up middle section that revealed a mirror. The desk had multiple outlets, a lamp, a phone, and a moderately comfortable chair. A TV hung on the wall above the desk.

There was also an armchair and a floor lamp in the far corner, near the window. Blackout curtains and day curtains were available, and the window had an unexciting view of the other wing of the hotel, thanks to the U-shape layout.

Bathroom

The bathroom in my deluxe room was interesting, and sharing it with someone you don’t know might be uncomfortable. For my solo visit, I thought it was fantastic.

The bathroom had 2 entrances and an L-shaped layout, making it accessible from the room’s entry hallway and the bedroom.

There was an incredible amount of counter space and a huge mirror above the sink, along with pump bottles of lotion and soap, a hair dryer on the wall, a closeup mirror, and a rack for hand towels. The most interesting feature was a pair of what I can only assume were toothbrush holders.

To the right of the sink, the toilet sat in its own cubby with a wooden door for privacy.

The shower was in a glass enclosure 1 step above the bathroom floor. There was no curtain or private area for the shower. Given the dual entries and the large mirror across from the shower, anyone in the room with you would be able to see you in the shower, so take that into consideration if you’re booking this room with someone who isn’t a romantic partner.

Shower pressure was excellent, and there were pump bottles of toiletries on the wall inside the shower box. The water also got hot very quickly, which was great.

Closet

Immediately after entering my room, I saw a closet and minibar along 1 wall. Here, I had several shelves, hangers, a minifridge, and coffee-making supplies on one of the shelves.

3. Food and Beverages Were Decent

Lacoon Bar & Restaurant

The Lacoon Bar & Restaurant was located near the hotel’s main entrance. It offered both bar seating and tables with chairs for those who wanted a traditional restaurant setting.

The bar was open from 10:30 a.m. to midnight daily, and it offered a menu of the day between noon and 6 p.m. daily. Dinner was served from 6 to 10 p.m. daily. The dinner menu was available at the restaurant’s entrance, making it convenient for those who needed help deciding whether to eat there.

Sonnin Restaurant

Sonnin was only open for breakfast, available from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. on weekdays and 6:30 a.m. to noon on weekends. Breakfast was available in 2 formats: a buffet or ordering from the à la carte menu available at each table.

The buffet had numerous pastries available, several types of fruit, and a handful of hot dishes, though some of these ran out quickly and took a while to be refilled. There were also several types of cold cuts, cereals, juices, multiple coffee machines, and a station for made-to-order eggs.

4. Amenities Were Basic

The hotel didn’t have a long list of amenities, but it had a few essentials.

Internet

The hotel offered complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the property, which was reliable.

Fitness Center

On the hotel’s top floor (the seventh), there was a small fitness center accessible by tapping your key card. The gym was available 24 hours a day, and it was very small. In the front room, there were a few pairs of free weights and a few multifunctional weight machines.

The rear room had several pieces of cardio equipment, and the hallway between the 2 areas had a water cooler and restrooms.

Elevators

There were 3 small elevators, and I never waited long for one of them to arrive.

Inside each elevator, there was helpful information about the on-site dining, including hours.

Self-Parking

Parking was available for €30 (about $35) per day.

Final Thoughts

I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay at the Lindner Hotel Hamburg Am Michel again. That said, my 1-night stay here was good.

Service wasn’t bad, but I’ll rate it as “could be better.”

However, there were several positives. Breakfast was decent, my room improved the more I explored it, and the amenities were decent. Plus, I got excellent value for my Hyatt points at a property centrally located in the neighborhood I wanted to visit. Those are all strengths.
