After 4 trips to Japan in the last 24 months, my wife and I found ourselves back in Japan. This time, we planned to spend a month at an Airbnb in Osaka.

However, we had 1 night in Tokyo without accommodation before heading over to Osaka. I had an expiring free night award from my Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card, and I knew I could put it to good use there.

Tokyo has several fantastic Marriott properties, some of which we have already stayed at. After narrowing down my many options, I ultimately chose The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, a Luxury Collection Hotel, a 5-star property under one of my favorite Marriott brands.

Here’s a look at my February 2026 stay at The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, along with some things to know about the property.

1. It’s an Excellent Use of a Marriott Free Night Certificate

The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card is one of the most premium cards in my wallet. It’s packed with several incredible perks and benefits, including complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status, 25 elite night credits each year, and up to $300 in statement credits per calendar year for eligible restaurant purchases worldwide (upon enrollment).

However, the most valuable (and my favorite) perk of the card is the free night award with each card anniversary. The free night award gives cardholders a reward night at any participating Marriott Bonvoy hotel, up to 85,000 points.

Marriott Bonvoy

In many instances, the free night certificate can actually be worth more than the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card’s hefty $650 annual fee (rates & fees). Over the years, I have redeemed the free night certificate at some extremely expensive properties, including The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo, and The St. Regis Chicago.

Points redemption rates for The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho vary significantly, but the property can be booked for 85,000 points somewhat frequently. For dates that require more than 85,000 points, Marriott also allows members to top off free night awards with up to 15,000 additional points.

We value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each, making 85,000 points worth $595. However, cash rates at The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho often exceed $700 per night.

2. It Has a Prime Location Near Many of Tokyo’s Famous Sites

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho occupies floors 30 through 36 of the Tokyo Garden Terrace’s Kioi Tower in the heart of Akasaka.

Akasaka has a high-end mix of upscale bistros, fine dining, shopping venues, luxury hotels, corporate headquarters, and lively nightlife. It is located close to the edge of the original Edo Castle.

The property is within walking distance of several Tokyo tourist attractions, including The Classic House at Akasaka Prince, Toyokawa-inari Tokyo-betsuin Temple, Hie-jinja Shrine, Shimizudani Park, Hanzomon Enchi Park, and the State Guest House Akasaka Palace.

The hotel is also less than a 10-minute walk from Nagatachō Station (a stop on the Yurakucho Line, Hanzomon Line, and Namboku Line) and Akasaka-mitsuke Station (a stop on the Ginza Line and the Marunouchi Line).

3. Views From Around the Hotel Were Plentiful

Thanks to its location high above the city in Kioi Tower, The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho offers tremendous panoramic views of the city. The hotel boasts floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the lobby, restaurants, and guest rooms.

The hotel lobby is located on the 36th floor and offers some incredible views of the lush grounds of the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower glowing at night, and even Mount Fuji on especially clear days.

As you’d expect, the guest rooms also offer fantastic views around Tokyo.

4. My Room Was Modern and Luxurious

As expected of an upscale hotel, The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho featured an extremely modern and luxurious room. I used my free night award to book a standard Superior King room. At check-in, I was upgraded to a slightly larger Deluxe King room on the 30th floor, thanks to my Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status.

The room felt refined and understated, outfitted with high-end furnishings, from sleek side tables to mounted reading lights. The king-size bed was exceptionally comfortable, with a plush, padded headboard that added both style and softness.

The bed was extremely comfortable.

Opposite the bed sat a compact lounging area featuring the room’s television, a large glass dining table, and a slightly undersized wall-mounted workstation. I loved how everything served a function.

The room was bigger than I was expecting.

The room also featured a large reading nook with a comfortable, soft bench by the windows, providing a relaxing place to pass the time.

I spent a good amount of time just sitting here looking outside.

The room also offered some tremendous panoramic views of Tokyo. From the room, we could see the Imperial Palace, many Tokyo Midtown buildings, and the Tokyo SkyTree.

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho room view
It was nice to see Tokyo Midtown and the Tokyo SkyTree at the same time.

The room included a generously sized bathroom with high-end finishes. It featured a high-tech Japanese toilet equipped with a bidet in a separate section of the bathroom. The bathroom also offered a spacious walk-in shower and a deep soaking tub.

The bathroom was quite nice as well.
Bottom Line:

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the room. It felt remarkably spacious for a non-suite room in Tokyo, which is known for small hotel rooms.

5. The Amenities Were High-End

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho offered numerous luxurious amenities, including a full-service spa, a business center, a fully equipped 24-hour-a-day fitness center, and an indoor swimming pool.

The award-winning Spa Kioi by Swiss Perfection featured Jacuzzis, steam rooms, hot and cold plunge pools, and saunas for men and women, and offered a long list of spa treatments, massages, and other services, such as manicures and pedicures.

The indoor swimming pool was extremely relaxing and immaculately clean. The pool area was large, with ample space for swimming or lounging. There were several deck chairs lined alongside the pool facing the windows, which also offered tremendous views.

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho pool
The pool was in immaculate condition.

The hotel maintained a strict no-photography policy in the pool area to protect guest privacy, meaning photos weren’t permitted even when the pool was empty — except for the special permission I requested.

Hot Tip:

There is a ¥3,300 (about $22) facility fee to access the swimming pool and fitness center. However, the fee is waived for Platinum Elite (and higher) members.

Lastly, there was also a fully equipped fitness center near the pool area.

6. There Were Several On-Site Dining Options

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho offered 4 dining options: Washoku Souten, All-Day Dining Oasis Garden, Sky Gallery Lounge Levita, and The Bar illumiid.

Washoku Souten is the hotel’s upscale Japanese restaurant, which serves traditional Japanese cuisine, including sushi and teppanyaki.

I loved the ambiance at Washoku Souten.

Sky Gallery Lounge Levita is the hotel’s cocktail lounge, offering panoramic views of the city. The Bar illumiid is another cocktail bar. All-Day Dining Oasis Garden is the hotel’s Pan-Mediterranean restaurant, which features a buffet throughout the day.

My wife and I had breakfast at All-Day Dining Oasis Garden. As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite member, I received a complimentary breakfast for 2 as my welcome amenity (a value of ¥5,800, or about $38, per person).

The breakfast buffet had an impressive selection of Japanese and international dishes. It also featured an à la carte menu, where guests could each select a main dish. From the menu, I opted for the eggs Benedict, and my wife went with the Oasis omelette.

The food was both delicious and exceptionally fresh, with a wide variety to choose from. Despite the venue being quite busy, the staff did an excellent job keeping everything well-stocked and orderly.

7. The Hotel Has a Club Lounge, With Exceptions

The property also featured a club lounge on the 34th floor. However, unlike many other Marriott Luxury Collection hotels, Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members do not receive complimentary access to the lounge.

Access to the club lounge is limited to guests booked in Club Floor or Grand Deluxe rooms, as well as those staying in suites. However, guests can purchase access to the club lounge for ¥24,000 ($157) per room.

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho is also a part of American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR). Amex FHR hotels offer curated benefits at participating high-end hotels worldwide.

Cardholders who book hotels through the FHR program can expect to receive additional perks, including:

  • Complimentary unique property benefit

  • Room upgrade upon arrival (when available)
  • Daily breakfast for 2 guests per room
  • Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout

To utilize the Amex FHR program, you must have one of the following cards: the Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, or the Centurion® Card from American Express.

Hot Tip:

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho also participates in The Edit by Chase Travel, which offers similar perks to eligible Chase cardholders.

Final Thoughts

The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is a solid 5-star luxury hotel in Tokyo’s Akasaka district. The property has plenty to offer, including spacious guest rooms and suites, luxurious amenities, fantastic views from wherever you are, and several on-site dining venues.

I booked this property with an 85,000-point free night award I earned with the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card. I would absolutely consider staying here again, though I prefer new experiences and would likely choose a different luxury property next time to see how it compares.
