I stayed at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel 3 years ago, and it was in need a renovation. It looked and felt outdated.

Now, that’s happening — to the tune of a $45 million refresh. The renovation is nearly complete, and I spent 4 nights at the hotel near the end of the upgrade project.

Many hotel facilities were already updated, but not everything was done yet. Moreover, service had some failings, and those had nothing to do with the ongoing renovations.

Here’s how my 4-night stay went in February 2026.

Booking Sheraton Stockholm Hotel

You can book the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel through the Marriott Bonvoy program. That’s because Sheraton is one of the many Marriott hotel brands.

During my stay in early February 2026, the hotel was charging $187 per night for standard rooms, which was a prepaid, nonrefundable rate. Flexible rates started at $205 per night.

Award bookings using Marriott Bonvoy points were available from 37,750 points per night. It was also possible to redeem a Marriott free night award with a few points added on top (assuming you have the 25,000- or 35,000-point awards).

You can get a fifth night free when redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points. If you redeem points at this hotel, staying 5 nights costs the same number of points as staying for 4 nights.

I paid cash for this stay, because the points redemptions only provided 0.5 cents per point in value. That’s well below our average valuation of Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each.

Hot Tip:

You can add up to 15,000 points to a free night award to help you book more expensive properties. You can receive a free night award worth up to 35,000 points as an annual cardholder benefit with Marriott credit cards like the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card or Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card.

Sheraton Stockholm Hotel Location

The Sheraton Stockholm Hotel is in Stockholm’s Rosenbad neighborhood and located just 2 blocks from the Stockholm Central Station, which serves numerous long-distance train routes and the Arlanda Express, which runs to Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN).

The hotel is also conveniently located near multiple regional train routes and subway lines, as well as buses, pedestrian- and bike-friendly areas, trams, and more.

Elite Benefits

Those with Marriott Bonvoy elite status enjoy several perks at this property, though the best ones kick in at the Platinum Elite tier.

Guests are eligible for room upgrades, based on availability at check-in, and welcome gifts. Depending on your elite tier, the welcome gift may be just points or may include points, complimentary breakfast each morning, and access to the elite lounge.

As a Titanium Elite member, I received 75% bonus points on my spending, a room upgrade, lounge access, daily breakfast, and 1,000 bonus points.

What’s It Like Staying at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel?

The hotel started a $45 million renovation in January 2025. It’s set to finish in March 2026, meaning I stayed a few weeks before things wrap up. While many aspects of the hotel’s upgrade were already done, some weren’t — and some facilities were closed due to ongoing works.

Room Renovations Were Done

The most noticeable aspect was that my room had clearly been updated. The color scheme and design were modern, and staff told me all room renovations were completed in 2025. That means every room, no matter the type, has the new look.

When I stayed at the hotel 3 years ago, rooms felt dated, so the new look was immediately obvious to me.

What my room looked like at this hotel 3 years prior.

My room had a comfortable king bed in the center, adorned with way too many pillows. Put together, they offered a modest amount of support for my head. Each side of the bed had a nightstand, lamp, and light switches that involved turning a knob. There were also outlets on each side of the bed — both Type C European plugs and USB-C — and one nightstand held complimentary drinking water.

The far corner of the room had a cabinet that served as the minibar, including a pod coffee machine, drinking glasses, and a pull-out fridge that held drinks for purchase. There was also a Bluetooth speaker on top of the cabinet.

I had an armchair and table in the middle of the room, but their placement in the space between the bed and the window felt odd.

My room looked over the lake and toward the islands that form the southern part of Stockholm.

Looking out my seventh-floor window.

The room’s entryway had the door to the bathroom, a unique mirrored wall, and a large closet. Inside the closet, I had lots of hangers, shelves, a safe, luggage rack, iron, and ironing board. There was a coat hook and a massive shoe horn near the door.

Bathroom

While it wasn’t large, the bathroom maximized space well and didn’t feel cramped. The sink had a push-button setup I’d never seen before, and there was lots of counter space. A backlit mirror hung above the sink, while towels were in a cubby underneath.

The sink was to my left, toilet in the center, and a walk-in shower was on the right. It had a half glass wall and half open space — a layout I’m not really fond of. The shower had both rainfall and handheld options, and there were pump bottles of both conditioner and a body wash/shampoo mix.

The sliding door to the bathroom closed quietly and effortlessly.

Lobby, Elite Lounge, and Meeting Facilities Were Updated

The lobby had a very modern look with rounded edges at the reception desk and privacy glass phone booths in the corner. Behind reception, there was a library nook.

Opposite reception, an unmarked door led to the elite lounge. This space had booth-style seating along the walls with both sofas and tables and chairs in the middle of the room.

Guests with lounge access could attend a daily happy hour from 4:30 to 7:30 in the evening. Offerings included snacks like olives and chips, beer, wine, coffee, sodas, and other drinks. Mixed drinks weren’t available.

Another area that had a very fresh look was the conference space on the first floor, accessible by elevators and stairs from the lobby. The deep reds and giant sofas made the space feel welcoming.

Only the Bar Was Ready, While Breakfast Was Improvised

Once everything is ready — projected for the end of March 2026 — the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel will offer 2 restaurants, a bar, and a juice bar. Only the bar was truly ready for customers during my visit.

Since The Breakfast (the hotel’s breakfast restaurant) wasn’t open yet, chairs and tables were set up around the bar and doors to the lounge were opened to create seating and buffet space each morning.

The breakfast buffet included fruits, salads, hot dishes like sausages and multiple types of eggs, a pastry stand near the bar, and juices on the bar itself. There also was a coffee machine inside the lounge.

Once the renovation is complete, breakfast will be served in The Breakfast, the lounge doors won’t open to all customers, and Mr. Bronck will offer lunch and dinner on the ground floor.

The Elevator Situation Changed Daily

Discovering which elevator was working each day was a surprising element of my stay. Different elevators would be blocked off by a moving yellow wall in the lobby, depending on current construction.

That yellow wall was hiding some of the elevators during part of my stay.

On guest floors, the elevator waiting area had an updated look and comfortable seating.

Some elevators were updated, but the insides of some elevators still had the old look.

The Gym Situation Was Comedic

The fitness center wasn’t finished during my stay in early February. Thus, a temporary situation was set up using 2 guest rooms on the first floor. I couldn’t help but laugh at the setup. In the first room, I found several treadmills and a bike squeezed together, and the next room had weights. Both rooms had roubber mats on the floor, and each room still had the normal hotel guest bathroom in the corner.

Service Could’ve Been Better

I found service inconsistent during my stay. A couple of examples will highlight this.

At check-in, the employee was very friendly and noted that the computer said I was a return customer. I thought that was a nice touch. He said I had been upgraded to a room with a better view; I knew from the Marriott Bonvoy app that multiple room types above that were available, so I asked for an upgrade to a suite.

His reaction to my question made me feel like the hotel had a policy of not giving suite upgrades to elite members without paying or using a Nightly Upgrade Award. A “we can’t, but…” response is why I got that feeling, and I didn’t press. The employee was probably just doing what he was told.

I did appreciate the welcome gift of points and daily breakfast. In my room, I found another welcome gift: a note, pack of gummies, and 2 sodas. At a premium hotel brand, giving gummies and sodas as a welcome gift to an adult feels strange.

The coffee machine in the lounge — which was also the sole coffee machine available at breakfast, so you can imagine the line that formed — allowed customers to choose dairy or oat milk for lattes and cappuccinos, and I thought that was fantastic.

Please offer this at more hotels. Thanks.

The employees in the lounge were very friendly. However, I had a very awkward experience during happy hour one evening.

There was a family with multiple children and an off-leash dog walking around the lounge unsupervised. The children were playing video games without headphones, yelling, and bouncing off the furniture. After asking the parents to quiet things down nicely, nothing changed. The employee in the lounge saw the interaction and didn’t do anything.

A few minutes later, when I told the family they were bothering the other guests, the employee offered to show me where I could find the quiet phone booths in the lobby — as if it were my responsibility to leave the lounge because a family wasn’t controlling their dog and children. When I said such, only then did the employee go ask the family to quiet down and put their dog on a leash. I was surprised the employee just stood back and did nothing until this point and that his idea for resolving the situation was that anyone upset by the noise could leave the lounge, rather than curtail the noise.

Final Thoughts

My stay at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel wasn’t ideal. I loved the updated features and look in my room. The hotel’s location is excellent, as well.

The gym setup made me laugh, and there were other inconveniences from the ongoing renovation. Visiting after this wraps up in March 2026 would make for a more seamless experience. However, the hotel’s unwillingness to provide suite upgrades and letting families use the lounge as a playground will dampen the experience for elite guests, even after the renovation, if those aren’t improved.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's happening with the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel renovation?

The hotel is in a large, multiphase renovation (a reported investment of roughly $45 million) that has been rolling out in stages. There were phased closures of conference areas during 2025 and larger relaunch activity through late 2025 into early 2026, though room renovations are already finished. Remaining restaurants should open in March 2026.

How can I book Sheraton Stockholm Hotel using Marriott Bonvoy points?

Search on Marriott.com or in the Marriott Bonvoy app, make sure you select “Use Points/Awards” or “Book with Points,” then select available award nights or Cash + Points options. Availability and nightly point rates vary by date, due to Marriott’s dynamic pricing, so sign in as a Marriott Bonvoy member and compare flexible dates to find point nights. You can find awards around 38,000 points per night on some dates.

Where is Sheraton Stockholm Hotel located? How do I get there?

The hotel sits at Tegelbacken, across the street and a few blocks down from Stockholm Central Station and the Cityterminalen bus terminal, so it is just a short walk to the hotel.

What on-site facilities and services does Sheraton Stockholm Hotel offer?

The hotel offers multiple restaurants, a bar, fitness center, meeting and conference spaces, concierge services, and an elite lounge for guests.

How many points do I need to book the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel?

Marriott Bonvoy’s award pricing changes often, as the program uses dynamic pricing. That means you’ll need more points on nights around holidays or high-demand dates when the cash price goes up. You can find nights for less than 40,000 points with a little effort.
