Aer Lingus’ checked baggage policy is a little unusual for its European flights but provides lots of flexibility for purchasing different weights, with the ability to split that weight across multiple pieces.
Baggage can be up to 50% cheaper when purchased online at booking, so make sure you plan ahead for the cheapest rates.

Aer Lingus Carry-On Allowance
1 personal item: FREE
Standard carry-on bag: FREE
Size and Weight Restrictions
- Personal item: 10 x 13 x 8 inches (25 x 33 x 20 cm)
- Carry-On:
- Standard allowance: 21.5 x 15.5 x 9.5 inches (55 x 40 x 24 cm) and 22 pounds (10 kg)
- Regional allowance (operated by Stobart Air): 18.5 x 13 x 8 inches (48 x 33 x 20 cm) and 15 pounds (7 kg)
Lap Infant Carry-On Policy
- Infants are not permitted any carry-on allowance, so any items would need to be included in the adult’s carry-on.
Stroller Check Policy
- Passengers may check a stroller, and one other item such as a car seat, booster seat, or travel cot. The stroller can be checked at the ticketing desk or at the gate.
Aer Lingus Checked Baggage Allowance
Individual checked bags may not exceed maximum linear dimensions of 62 inches (158 cm) including handles and wheels. If your fare type has a higher weight allowance, then the maximum a single piece can weigh is 70 pounds (32 kg).
Flights Within Europe
Plus, Advantage, and AerSpace fares include a 44 pound (20 kg) bag, with the option to purchase more weight.
Saver fares do not include any baggage, so this must be purchased separately. All passengers can pay for an extra piece, but this doesn’t increase the weight, it just allows the passenger to split the weight across multiple pieces.
The baggage fee depends on the distance of the route and when the bag is added to the booking. Adding your bag online can save up to 50% compared to the airport fee. Passengers can only add 44 pounds (20 kg) of luggage at the airport — the other weight options are not available then.

Credit Cards That Wipe Away Your Baggage Fees
Just because Aer Lingus charges baggage fees doesn’t mean you have to pay them out of pocket. Instead, we recommend charging your baggage fees to the Capital One® Venture® Rewards card or the Capital One® VentureOne® Card. Then, use the card’s Purchase Eraser tool to wipe away the baggage fees using your card’s rewards points.
The Purchase Eraser lets you redeem points for any sort of travel purchase (including baggage fees) within 90 days. You’ll get 1 cent per point in value, so a $55 baggage fee would cost just 5,500 points. There’s no doubt that this is far better than paying the fee out of pocket.
Can I Pre-Pay for Baggage?
Aer Lingus does allow passengers the ability to pre-pay luggage online to save up to 50% compared to airport prices.
These are the ways you can pre-pay:
- Log-in to your booking and add them to your reservation
- Contact the Aer Lingus customer service team

I am booked with Aer Lingus from Frankfurt to Minneapolis via Dublin. What are my baggage allowances (weight and dimensions) and are they the same for both legs of the trip and each way?
Hi Dafydd,
You should be able to bring 1 personal item, 1 carry-on item, and 1 checked bag weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kgs).
