Marriott Bonvoy

This free night certificate includes the room rate and applicable taxes and fees, so you truly get a free night at a qualifying Marriott property when you use the certificate.

If you hold either the Marriott Bonvoy Business card or the Marriott Bonvoy card, your free night certificate is valid for a redemption price of up to 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. However, if you hold the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card, your free night certificate is valid for a redemption price of up to 85,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

Only the primary card member will receive a free-night certificate, so any authorized users or employees will not get their own free night certificates. The free-night certificate is valid for 1 year after it’s issued.

Hot Tip: The new Marriott Bonvoy Bevy™ American Express® Card doesn’t automatically come with a free night certificate. However, you can earn one (with a redemption value of up to 50,000 points) after spending $15,000 on the card in a calendar year.

When the certificate is deposited into your Marriott Bonvoy account, you’ll be notified via the email address listed there, and you’ll also be provided with instructions on how to redeem it.

To redeem these certificates, log in to your Marriott Bonvoy account and apply the e-certificate during booking. If you want to redeem the certificate, be sure that redeeming points is not selected as your payment option.

Hot Tip: The free night certificate is credited to your Marriott Bonvoy account within 8 to 12 weeks after your anniversary. This is done to prevent cardmembers from getting the certificate and then canceling the card before paying the annual fee.

Marriott Bonvoy

The Marriott Boundless card is the only Chase card that offers a free night certificate automatically. However, the Marriott Bountiful card provides a free night certificate after you spend $15,000 in a calendar year.

Typically, free night certificates from Chase post a bit faster than those from Amex. However, it can take up to 8 weeks after your account anniversary date for it to be deposited into your online Marriott Bonvoy account.

Of course, the free night certificates from Chase cards behave the same as the ones from Amex cards.

The free night certificate from the Marriott Boundless card is valid for a 1-night stay worth up to 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

These are 3 more Chase cards that are no longer open for applications but earn free night certificates every account anniversary:

  • Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier Credit Card — up to 25,000 points
  • Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier Plus Business Credit Card — up to 35,000 points
  • The Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card — up to 85,000 points

Just like the Amex certificates, your free night certificate is valid for 1 year after being issued.

Bottom Line: Amex and Chase both have cards that offer Marriott Bonvoy free night certificates. In general, the card you get depends on what card benefits you value more.

Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Annual Choice Benefit

Another way to earn free night certificates is to qualify for one of the highest tiers of Marriott Bonvoy’s elite status, Titanium Elite.

When you stay at least 75 eligible nights, you qualify for Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite status and receive a perk called an annual choice benefit that allows you to choose from 1 of the following options:

  • 5 Suite Night Awards
  • 1 Free Night Award (valid for up to 40,000 points)
  • The ability to gift Gold Elite status
  • 40% off your favorite hotel bed
  • 5 Elite Night Credits
  • A $100 charity donation

Most people choose the 5 Suite Night Awards as their annual choice benefit. However, if you designate it as your Titanium annual choice benefit, getting a free night certificate is still possible.

New Member Paid Stay Promotions

Marriott Bonvoy frequently circulates a promotion in which new members who sign up for a Marriott Bonvoy account earn a free night after completing 2 stays within a specific timeframe.

This applies only to new members, not existing Marriott Bonvoy members, and free night certificates are good for up to 25,000 points and have the same 1-year validity as all other free night certificates.

Hot Tip: You can now top up your free night certificate by using up to 15,000 points. So a 50,000-point certificate can be used in conjunction with points for a night costing up to 65,000 points.
