Marriott Bountiful Card — Is It Worth It?

If you travel often, and regularly stay at Marriott hotels, and would like a card that helps you earn more Marriott Bonvoy points, then the Marriott Bountiful card would be worth it for you.

The card helps you earn 18.5x points per $1 on your Marriott stays (6x points with your card, up to 10x points for being a Marriott Bonvoy member, and 2.5x points for your automatic Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status). You’ll also earn 4x points per $1 on dining worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $15,000 in combined purchases) and 2x points per $1 on all other purchases.

If you value Marriott Bonvoy elite status, the Marriott Bountiful could be a good choice thanks to its complimentary Gold Elite status, and 15 Elite Night Credits that help you achieve higher levels of elite status much faster than you would without the card.

Marriott Bountiful Card Top Benefits

Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status

For holding the Marriott Bountiful card, you’ll receive automatic Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, the second elite status tier in the Marriott Bonvoy program.

Gold Elite status comes with the following perks:

  • 25% bonus points on stays
  • Enhanced room upgrades (subject to availability)
  • 2 p.m. late checkout (subject to availability)
  • Points welcome bonus at check-in

15 Elite Night Credits

Your card also helps you achieve higher levels of elite status by offering 15 Elite Night Credits each year.

Reaching the next tier of elite status, Platinum Elite, usually requires spending 50 nights each year at Marriott properties. However, since you automatically start each year with 15 Elite Night Credits as a card benefit, you’d need to stay just 35 nights in order to qualify.

1,000 Points per Stay

Cardholders will receive 1,000 bonus points on each paid stay, on top of the standard points you’ll earn for being a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member and paying with your card.

If you make quite a few Marriott stays each year, especially shorter stays, then earning an extra 1,000 points each time can certainly add up.

Free Night Award

Cardholders can earn a free night award redeemable at any Marriott hotel that costs up to 50,000 points per night. Further, you can top off Marriott award certificates with up to 15,000 points, which would allow you to use the certificate at a property that costs up to 65,000 points per night.

The downside is that you are required to spend $15,000 on the card in a calendar year in order to receive the certificate, as opposed to other cards which offer certificates as an automatic card perk.

Card Protections

The Marriott Bountiful card offers the following protections to cardholders:

  • Trip Delay Insurance: When you pay for a round-trip flight with your card and it is delayed by more than 12 hours, you can receive up to $300 in coverage.
  • Rental Car Insurance: Receive secondary rental car coverage when you decline the rental company’s coverage and pay with your Marriott Bountiful card.
  • Baggage Insurance: If your baggage is lost, damaged, or stolen, you can receive up to $2,000 in coverage for checked baggage and up to a combined maximum of $3,000 for checked and carry-on baggage.
  • Purchase Protection: Items purchased with your card that are lost, damaged, or stolen within 90 days of purchase can receive up to $10,000 in coverage per occurrence and up to $50,000 in coverage per year.
  • Extended Warranty Coverage: Items purchased with your card with warranties of 5 years or less receive up to 1 additional year of coverage.

Best Ways To Earn and Redeem Your Marriott Bonvoy Points

Unsurprisingly, one of the easiest ways to rack up Marriott Bonvoy points is by staying at Marriott hotels and using your Marriott Bountiful card for these purchases. That said, there are tons of other ways to earn a lot of Marriott Bonvoy points that you might be overlooking.

When it comes time to redeem, it is a great benefit that Marriott Bonvoy points are flexible as far as hotel points go. While you can easily redeem your points to book free nights within the Marriott portfolio, you can also transfer your Marriott Bonvoy points to over 40+ airline partners, allowing you to book flights and hotel stays with your Marriott Bonvoy points.
