British Airways makes it pretty simple: just browse, shop, and collect Avios! Image courtesy of

Once you are logged in, you can browse retailers and special offers. Clicking on a retailer will give the offer, a brief overview of the company, and an opportunity to use the Avios Calculator to see how many Avios you will earn with a specific purchase amount.

If you want to shop with a specific retailer and receive your bonus miles, you must click the red “Shop Now” button that will direct you through to the retailer’s site. Then, simply complete your purchase through the site. British Airways automatically tracks your purchase through cookies, so be sure they are enabled on your browser!

Your Avios should show “Pending” in your account within 5 working days. BA will validate your purchase with the retailer within 40 days. When approved, the account will be updated to reflect the status. All “Approved” Avios should be posted to your Executive Club account within 48 hours.

If you purchase your items without going through the eStore, there is no way to retroactively apply your bonus Avios.

Occasionally, it’s possible to earn even more bonus points by way of special shopping offers. Generally, these offers will involve a retailer issuing an increased number of Avios per dollar. These special offers tend to run for a limited time only, with the deadline listed when you click the retailer.

For example, at the time of this writing Macy’s was highlighting a special offer to earn 7 Avios per $1 (rather than their normal offer of 3 Avios per $1).

Using Credit Cards to Earn Extra Points

Using the Avios eStore can earn you extra bonus miles just by itself, but you can earn even more by paying with a credit card that earns points or miles!

If your main goal is to earn British Airways miles, you have several credit card options.

British Airways Avios can be earned directly with the British Airways Visa Signature® Card.

BA Avios can also be transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards (both at a rate of 1:1) or from Marriott at a transfer rate of 3:1.

Recommended Chase Cards (Personal)

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card - This is our favorite beginners travel rewards card which has a 60,000 point bonus (highest ever) after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

This sign up bonus is worth $750 in travel purchases (flights, hotels, car rentals etc) when you redeem your points through Chase's travel portal, which works like Expedia. The bonus alone could get you multiple round-trip flights or hotel stays.
Chase Sapphire Reserve® - Consider this premium card if you want to get into a lot of airport lounges. The current sign up bonus is 50,000 points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. You'll also get a $300 travel credit per year which wipes away a big chunk of the $450 annual fee.
Chase Freedom Unlimited® - A simple, no annual fee card that earns you a $150 bonus after you spend $500 in your first 3 months. Easy earning at 1.5% on all purchases. Just know that you won't get any travel benefits or the ability to earn bonus points with this card.

Recommended Amex Cards (Personal)

The Platinum Card® from American Express - There's currently a welcome bonus of 60,000 points after spending $5,000 in your first 3 months. This is our favorite card for getting into 1,200+ airport lounges worldwide (including Priority Pass) and we get about $2,700+ in value from the card every year.

Plus, get up to $200 in Uber credits annually ($15 per month and a $20 bonus in December) — and up to $200 in annual credit for airline incidental charges (e.g. baggage fees). For rates and fees of the Platinum Card, click here.
American Express® Gold Card - We love using this card as it earns 4x points at restaurants worldwide and 4x points at US supermarkets (up to $25,000; then 1x). There's no better card in our opinion if you eat out and/or shop at supermarkets regularly.

With a welcome bonus of 35,000 points after you spend $4,000 in your first 3 months and a $100 airfare credit per year, for many this is an easy addition to your wallet. For rates and fees of the Gold Card, click here.

Business Owner? See our article on Amex business cards that earn Membership Rewards.

Recommended Marriott Cards

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card - Earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Get automatic silver elite status each account anniversary year; and a free night award (valued up to 35,000 points) every year after account anniversary.
Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card - earn 75,000 bonus points when you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. A solid card for business owners who will get complimentary Marriott Bonvoy silver elite status. Annual fee is $125. For rates and fees of the Bonvoy Business Card, click here.

If a retailer falls into one of a card’s bonus categories, you can earn even more points that can be transferred to British Airways.

Collected AVIOS points for many years and used estore frequently however now transferred to British Airways and just made my first purchase with BA ESTORE and unable to find a record of my purchase can you explain where they are located on the site. Cheers.

    • Hi Maureen, in order to find the record of your purchase you will have to log into your BA executive club account.

From the landing page, you can click the drop-down “Manage My Account” on the left-hand side. From there, chose “My Statement”.

Your Avios should show “Pending” in your account within 5 working days. BA will validate your purchase with the retailer within 40 days. When approved, the account will be updated to reflect the status. All “Approved” Avios should be posted to your Executive Club account within 48 hours.

      Hope this helps! 🙂

  2. I have been shopping through airline portals for several years but this summer I shopped through BA’s for the first time. I shopped at 3 different stores and have yet to receive a single point. First some didn’t even show as pending after 5 days, so I sent receipts. Then they all showed as pending. 40 days came and went. Nothing showed as approved. I contacted them through email and now the one I listed first shows as approved but not the other two. 48 hours have passed, points still not in my account. I have only had this much trouble getting my points one other time from all the programs I shop through. I don’t know if it is worth so much time monitoring it, contacting them, etc, to get the points. Through other airlines I usually get the points within 5-10 days, with no hassle, even on large purchases.

  3. I have been using this for a few years and have just received a new payment card through the post. However, I cannot seem to find out how to register this new card. Is this no longer required since these new changes to the Executive Club eStore? I cannot find anything mentioned on this on their website – and cannot seem to contact them about it. Thank you for any help.

    • Hi Aaron, there is no need to register any credit card in order to use the British Airways Avios eStore. This is simply a platform you sign into with your BA Executive Club account number and then click through to the desired online retailer where you will make your purchase with any credit card you desire.

BA tracks these purchases in regards to your action of clicking through the e-store paired with your Executive Club number, not the credit card that was used.

Is it possible you’re referring to a different platform you previously used? Whenever you’re dealing with questions related to a specific card, we always suggest calling the phone number listed on the back of the card to speak with the customer service representative available via the card issuer as that will be the most precise information available.

Apple are offering 6 Avios/£ at present. They are also offering 6 months interest free on Apple Watch purchases. If I purchase using the interest free offer does this affect avios I’ll receive?

    • Catherine Luther · April 26, 2019 · Reply

      Hi Thurleigh,

There doesn’t seem to be any information on the Avios e-store website regarding financing and Avios points; however, as you would be entering into a financial contract with them I would imagine the offer would stand for the full duration. You would best to give them a call to verify if the offer is a dealbreaker for your purchase. You can find contact details for Avios here.

The website doesn’t let me log in. It says the page has other stopped working or moved!

    • Hi Luisa – we’re getting the same message on our end… we’ll try to look into it and see what we come up with but not seeing any news on the closure yet so we’re just as stumped as you!

  6. Hi Erin,

I had several cards registered under my estore reward account, however, by deleting cards accidentally, I am no longer able to add cards back on the account. Can you please kindly advise?

    Many thanks
