Looking for a new card but don’t want to pay a super-high annual fee? Amex has you covered with a more-than-generous welcome offer on the American Express® Business Gold Card.

As a mid-tier card, you’ll be on the hook for a $375 annual fee (rates & fees) — but the points you’ll earn will be worth way more than this.

Let’s take a look.

Targeted offers are discussed in the article below. Please note that these offers are not available to all applicants. Any information related to targeted offers has been collected independently and has not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Amex Business Gold Card Welcome Bonus Offer

The welcome offers for the Amex Business Gold card will vary based on a number of factors, including your credit score and income. It’s possible to see any one of several different available offers. An offer for 70,000 points is nothing to sneeze at — but with 110,000 or 150,000 points? You can go a long way with a welcome offer that large.

We generally value Membership Rewards points at about 2.2 cents apiece, meaning a 70,000-point bonus offer is worth ~$1,540, a 110,000-point bonus is worth ~$2,420 and a 150,000-point bonus is worth $3,300.

Option 1: Check on Amex Directly (Try This Approach First)

If you want to pick up the Amex Business Gold card with the highest offers possible, we recommend starting your search directly on the American Express website.

Checking directly will allow you to see what type of offer you’re targeted for.

Option 2: Check the CardMatch Tool

If Amex’s offer isn’t the one you’re looking for, then the second option we recommend is checking via the CardMatch tool.

CardMatch uses a soft credit check to see if you’re eligible for any elevated offers. Because it isn’t a hard pull, checking offers won’t impact your credit score.

Option 3. Targeted Email Offers

If you’re still searching, keep an eye out for targeted email or mail offers. You must opt-in to receive New Card and Credit Offers in your Amex account’s General Marketing Email Preferences.

Option 4. Amex Business Gold Referral Offers

Friends and family members with an American Express card can refer you to an Amex card using the refer-a-friend program.

Better yet, referring a friend does not require the person referring you to have the Amex Business Gold card. No matter which American Express card they hold, they can send you their referral offer, and if you are lucky, you can even receive a targeted welcome offer that earns you even more points. In fact, you could even receive a 110,000- or 150,000-point Amex Business Gold card referral offer.

In order to find and share your Amex personal referral link, first go to the refer-a-friend page on the American Express website.

Then, select the card you are sending a referral for. Once you’ve clicked your card, American Express will show you the number of points you will receive for referring your friend and the number of points your friend will receive as a welcome bonus offer if they are approved.

To send your referral link, you simply need to enter their email address to have it emailed directly or generate a unique link that you can then send to them via text message or another means.

Make certain that your friend applies through the link that you provide them with, or you will not be eligible to receive the referral bonus points.

Amex Business Gold Card Benefits

Along with a generous welcome offer, the Amex Business Gold card comes with several benefits.

This card earns 4x Membership Rewards points on the top 2 categories in which your business spends the most every month (up to $150,000 in combined purchases every calendar year):

  • Transit purchases including trains, taxicabs, rideshare services, ferries, tolls, parking, buses, and subways
  •  U.S. purchases made from electronic goods retailers and software & cloud system providers
  • Monthly wireless telephone service charges made directly from a wireless telephone service provider in the U.S.
  • U.S. purchases at gas stations
  • U.S. purchases at restaurants, including takeout and delivery
  • Purchases at U.S. media providers for advertising in select media (online, TV, radio)

Other benefits of the Amex Business Gold card include:

Maximizing Amex Membership Rewards Points

What would you do with all these Amex Membership Rewards points? If you qualify for the 110,000-point welcome offer and maximize your minimum spend with 4x purchases, you’ll be sitting on a stockpile of 170,000 points.

So, what can you do with them?

Fly ANA First Class Round-Trip to Japan

Amex transfer partner Virgin Atlantic charges between 145,000 and 170,000 points round-trip for a first-class flight on Tokyo-based ANA. Amex points transfer to Virgin Atlantic at a 1:1 ratio, meaning 1 Amex point becomes 1 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club point.

Fly Round-Trip Business Class to Europe

Avianca, a member of the Star Alliance and its LifeMiles program, has access to some of the best products flying to Europe. These include airlines such as United, Lufthansa, Air Canada, and SWISS. Avianca charges 63,000 miles one-way for a business-class flight from the U.S. to Europe. Better yet, it doesn’t pass along any fuel surcharges. This will keep your out-of-pocket cost low on airlines such as Lufthansa (which can otherwise charge upwards of $1,000 per flight).

Amex points transfer to Avianca LifeMiles at a 1:1 ratio.

Go to French Polynesia 7 Times

Are you feeling like taking a trip to Bora Bora? Australian airline Qantas partners with Air Tahiti Nui to provide reward flights to French Polynesia. Flights from the West Coast of the U.S. cost just 22,500 miles one-way in economy, meaning you can buy 7 tickets and still have some miles left over.

As with the others on this list, Amex points transfer to Qantas Airways at a 1:1 ratio.

Hot Tip: For more inspiration, check out the best ways to redeem your Amex Membership Rewards points (we also have guides for redeeming 60,000 and 100,000 Amex points) and how to upgrade your flight using Membership Rewards points.

Final Thoughts

This is an excellent offer for the Amex Business Gold card. Although it features fewer benefits than some of its higher-end options, you’ll enjoy thousands of dollars worth of points when meeting (and maximizing) the minimum spend.
