As a small business owner, earning cash-back on your purchases can put money back into your business — money you need to keep operations flowing by purchasing future products or paying employees. There’s a tool called Visa SavingsEdge that you might not know about that can help you earn cash-back on purchases just by having a Visa credit card.

Never heard of it? That’s ok. We’re here to teach you what Visa SavingsEdge is, how it works, and how to use its offers to put money back in your pocket.

What Is Visa SavingsEdge?

Visa SavingsEdge is Visa’s innovative discount platform that makes saving money on everyday purchases incredibly easy for contractors, freelancers, and other small business owners. It offers multiple savings options to suit different shopping styles.

Whether you’re shopping online or in-store, you can earn bonus cash-back on your spending if you have a Visa credit card for your business and complete the simple, free online enrollment for the program. There’s no cost to maintain a membership in Visa SavingsEdge.

Beyond just saving at the register, the platform lets you track your earnings, search for nearby offers, and book travel using your linked credit card — all in 1 convenient hub. While the program is evolving, with hints of exciting updates coming soon, the current setup delivers a straightforward and effective way to unlock savings every time you spend.

So long as you have a Visa credit card for your small business, you are eligible. Your card doesn’t need to have an annual fee or be issued by a particular bank. Thus, you could use these offers with cards like the Alaska Airlines Visa® Business credit card from Bank of America, Costco Anywhere Visa® Business Card by Citi, U.S. Bank Business Leverage® Visa Signature® Card, or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card from Chase, to name a few examples available in the U.S.

Hot Tip:

It’s possible to get a business credit card no matter your company’s size. The best small business credit cards can help you earn rewards on your spending while keeping your personal and professional expenses separate. That makes things easier during tax season.

How To Save Money With Visa SavingsEdge

Visa SavingsEdge provides cash-back offers for both online and in-store shopping. You also can earn cash-back from hotel and rental car bookings.

After logging in to your account, you’ll see your current cash-back amount ($0 if you’re newly enrolled). Next to this, you’ll see featured brands that have current offers available. Many offers are for 1% to 5% cash-back, though you can occasionally find deals offering over 30% back.

At the bottom of the page, you’ll also find featured offers that you may be interested in. To be clear, these aren’t necessarily the highest offers of the day.

However, you don’t have to use any of these. A search bar at the top of the page lets you search by offers in a certain location, by a particular brand, or by a category like “hotels” or “computers.”

There’s no limit to how much cash-back you can receive from Visa SavingsEdge, though individual offers may have maximum discounts. Each offer will have terms that outline what types of purchases qualify, how the discount works, and the maximum discount, if any. Certain purchases, including traveler’s checks, wire transfers, and purchases using a PIN, aren’t eligible for cash-back.

Offers are listed by 4 types: online, in-store, travel, and instant coupons.

Online Cash-Back

With online cash-back offers, you can sort by categories, including dining, retail, grocery, office supplies, electronics, advertising, and more. You can also search for participating merchants by name.

If you find an offer you want to use, click the “Shop Now” link, which will redirect you to the merchant’s website and the terms of the offer. You must pay using the card linked to your Visa SavingsEdge account and complete the transaction in the same browser window in which you followed the “shop now” link. The website will track your purchase to verify eligibility; closing the window or purchasing with a different credit card means you won’t earn any cash-back.

Both online and in-store cash-back offers are received as statement credits. You may not receive credit in the same statement period as the purchase. However, you should see “Visa SavingsEdge Award” as the merchant, along with your statement credit amount, within 1 to 2 billing cycles.

Since Visa SavingsEdge functions as its own shopping portal — and you need to follow its links to earn cash-back — it’s not possible to stack these offers with other websites like Rakuten or those found on CashbackMonitor.

In-Store Cash-Back

Like the online option above, you can earn statement credits for purchases made with eligible merchants you visit in person. Eligible merchant categories include gas stations, restaurants, and retail stores.

To take advantage of these offers, choose the category you’re interested in and then search by city or ZIP code.

For instance, an offer with Petco provides 2% cash-back from March 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025. Participating locations can also be viewed on a map.

Unlike other programs you may be familiar with, such as Amex Offers or Citi Merchant Offers, these offers have no enrollment button. However, if you make a qualifying purchase using your linked card, you should receive a statement credit.

Travel Cash-Back

You can earn cash-back on your reservations when booking hotels or rental cars through the Visa SavingsEdge website. You’ll receive credit within 60 days of completing your trip.

Start by searching for your destination and entering your travel dates. If you’re searching for a hotel, you’ll also include the number of guests. For rental cars, there’s a checkbox for drivers under 25 years of age and the option to select a different return location than where you’re picking up the car.

Click on the information symbol next to an offer to display details of your booking cost and the amount of cash-back you’ll earn.

Should you book hotels and rental cars with Visa SavingsEdge? It depends.

Rental car and hotel rewards programs don’t typically provide benefits on bookings made through third-party sites like Visa SavingsEdge or Expedia, for example. Thus, if you like earning points on trips or have elite status with these programs, you may not enjoy those benefits when booking travel in this portal. That means you might not get a room upgrade and may have to wait in line to pick up your car rather than going straight to the lot.

Are those perks more valuable than the cash-back you could receive here? You’ll need to compare the trip cost on Visa SavingsEdge’s website against the cost of booking directly. Then, evaluate any potential savings (once you’ve factored in the cash-back offer) against the perks you would forgo.

Hot Tip:

We’ve done the research for you, compiling lists of the best websites for booking cheap hotels and saving money on rental cars.

Instant Coupons

The final savings category is instant coupons. Rather than waiting for cash-back as a statement credit on your billing statement, these discounts are shown at checkout. You’ll see them knocking down the price when it’s time to pay. They’re available both online and in-store.

You can sort these offers by categories like retail, telecommunications, business services, advertising and marketing, travel, and software.

Following a 30% discount offer for TaxAct leads to the merchant’s page with a discount code applied, and the discount is immediately reflected in the price shown to customers.

To use these offers, click the “Get Discount” button and follow the link to the merchant’s page. The discount is applied at the time of payment. You won’t earn cash-back on these offers.

Combining These Deals With Other Offers for More Rewards

You can stack rewards from Visa SavingsEdge with other offers.

For example, at the time of writing, members can enjoy a 30% discount with TaxAct using the instant coupon above. At the time of writing, there’s also an offer for 25% cash-back on TaxAct via Chase Offers. This could provide an additional statement credit on top of the discount already applied at the time of purchase, assuming you add this offer to your Chase small business credit card and use that same card to pay through Visa SavingsEdge.

Not every offer will present this opportunity. However, it’s worth checking offers from your credit card’s issuer to see if you can double up on discounts or cash-back earnings.

How To Enroll in Visa SavingsEdge

Enrolling in Visa SavingsEdge is easy and free. Visit the enrollment page here and click the “Link your card” button.

On the next screen, you’ll provide your email address and a Visa small-business credit card number — the entire number, which is used to verify eligibility.

On the next page, you may be sent a code to verify your email address. Then, you’ll follow the steps to enter your name, set up security questions, and create a password.

You don’t need a card with an annual fee to participate. I verified my eligibility and set up my account with the $0-annual-fee Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card from Chase.

You can link up to 10 credit cards to your account. You need to relink your card if you get a new one with a different number, such as a replacement card if yours was lost or damaged.

Final Thoughts
