Flight delays can be frustrating, but if you use the Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® card, you can get an instant credit for your inconvenience. One of this premium airline card’s benefits is a $50 instant travel delay credit automatically issued when your Alaska Airlines or a qualifying Alaska Airlines-marketed flight meets delay or cancellation conditions.

This credit is part of a broader overhaul following Alaska Airlines acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines and launch of the Atmos Rewards program.

Here’s what you need to know about this unique benefit and how you can use the credit.

How Does the $50 Instant Travel Delay Credit Work?

The $50 instant travel delay credit is a voucher redeemable at eligible merchants that is automatically issued to your Atmos Rewards Summit card when your flight is marketed and operated by Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, or SkyWest and has either of the following happen:

  • Delayed for 2 hours or more for any reason
  • Canceled within 24 hours of scheduled departure

The credit applies if the primary cardholder is traveling, has their Atmos Rewards number on the reservation, and booked the ticket directly with AlaskaAir.com and paid with the Atmos Rewards Summit card.

You don’t have to file a claim or wait for reimbursement. You receive an email with voucher activation instructions, and the first $50 in eligible purchases is reimbursed as a statement credit. However, the voucher is only valid for 48 hours, and you can only earn 1 voucher per calendar day.

This benefit is exclusive to Atmos Rewards Summit cardholders. You don’t need to enroll, but you do have to activate the voucher via email before you make eligible purchases.

Hot Tip:

This is one of the only airline card perks with real-time compensation with no paperwork. You just activate the voucher and spend.

Eligibility and Limits

Only the primary cardholder is eligible for the $50 voucher, even if you’re traveling with others on the same reservation. You can’t earn more than 1 voucher per calendar day.

Flights must be booked directly with AlaskaAir.com using your Atmos Rewards Summit card, but flights booked with Atmos Rewards points are eligible as long as you paid the taxes and fees with your card.

Partner flights, including those operated by Hawaiian Airlines, don’t qualify for this benefit.

Where You Can Use the Voucher

The $50 voucher is intended to make travel delays easier, offering money toward food, retail purchases, and transportation. Eligible merchants include:

  • Restaurants and fast food
  • Grocery stores and pharmacies
  • Clothing and electronics retailers
  • Transportation providers

Online merchants and alcohol-focused establishments such as bars, taverns, breweries, and cocktail lounges are excluded.

If you’re not sure whether a purchase qualifies for the voucher credit, check the list of eligible merchant category codes.

Once you make an eligible purchase, the credit automatically applies to your Atmos Rewards Summit card statement.

How the Travel Delay Benefit Compares

Many travel credit cards offer trip delay and cancellation benefits, which typically require:

  • A minimum delay of 6 hours or more
  • Reimbursement after submitting documentation and receipts

The Atmos Rewards Summit card’s $50 instant travel delay credit is different. It’s instant, with no claims process, and applies after just 2 hours of delay. However, it’s delivered as a voucher, not a reimbursement, and is only valid for 48 hours.

If you’re looking for easy assurance that you’ll be taken care of when your flight doesn’t go as planned, this instant no-questions-asked credit can be more useful than filing a travel benefit claim.

Bottom Line:

If you regularly fly Alaska Airlines, the $50 instant travel delay credit can add immediate value, especially for minor delays that typical travel credit card benefits wouldn’t cover.
