Heading Down Under any time soon? If so, a new American Airlines promotion could give you up to 25,000 bonus AAdvantage miles.

There are several important terms to note, including which flights are eligible for bonus miles and how you’ll earn them. Luckily, you have nearly a month to plan your trip, and you can travel through May of next year — giving you lots of time to sort out the logistics.

Let’s take a look at this new American Airlines promotion to see how it works.

American Airlines Bonus Miles Promotion Details

To qualify, you need to register for this promotion and book your flights by August 7, 2025. You have until May 31, 2026, to complete your flights.

However, there are blackout dates to note: from December 15, 2025, to January 12, 2026.

Only flights operated by American Airlines and Qantas qualify for this offer, and you’ll only earn bonus miles on flights from the U.S. to Australia and/or New Zealand, as well as connecting flights within those countries. Thus, if you take a flight from Omaha (OMA) to Los Angeles (LAX) to connect to a flight to Australia, you’ll only earn bonus miles on the flight out of Los Angeles — not the domestic flight within the U.S.

To register for this promotion, log in to your American Airlines AAdvantage account and head to the promotions tab.

This promotion may be targeted, meaning it may not be available for everyone. However, it is available for many people so far, so it’s worth checking your account.

Important terms to note for this promotion include the following:

  • You must register by August 7, 2025.
  • Only flights booked after registration and before 11:59 p.m. CT on August 7, 2025, will qualify.
  • Only flights booked after registration and flown by May 31, 2026, qualify.
  • Flights between December 15, 2025, and January 12, 2026, aren’t eligible.
  • Only flights marketed and operated by American Airlines or Qantas are eligible.
  • Only direct flights from the U.S. to Australia and/or New Zealand are eligible.
  • Connecting flights in other countries, including within the U.S., aren’t eligible for bonus miles.
  • Earn a maximum of 25,000 bonus miles with this offer.
  • Bonus miles apply to base earnings only, not any bonuses you receive from elite status.
  • Bonus miles will post to your account within 14 days of eligible flights.
  • Award tickets don’t qualify for bonus miles.
  • Bonus miles don’t count toward elite status or Million Miler qualification.

There is no prohibition on earning bonus miles on more than 1 trip during this promotion. Additionally, there’s no requirement to book round-trip itineraries to qualify.

How Many Miles Can You Earn With This Promotion?

You won’t earn a flat 25,000 bonus miles with this offer. Rather, you can earn up to 25,000 bonus miles by earning miles at a higher rate than normal.

Final Thoughts

A new promotion from American Airlines offers up to 25,000 bonus AAdvantage miles on flights from the U.S. to both Australia and New Zealand, as well as connecting flights within those countries.

There are several important terms to note, including registration, travel, and booking dates. Additionally, you should understand that only AA and Qantas flights qualify, and you’ll earn up to 100% bonus miles on flights, depending on which cabin you travel in.

If you’re considering a trip to Australia or New Zealand, earning up to 100% bonus miles could be a nice bonus if the dates and restrictions align with your travel plans.
