Alaska Airlines is planning a big expansion along the West Coast, with several new routes starting this fall and winter.

“These new additions further expand our ability to take our guests between growing markets in California and the Pacific Northwest for leisure and business travel,” said Kirsten Armine, Alaska’s vice president of revenue management and network planning.

Let’s take a look at the news.

Alaska Growing in Burbank Shortly After Avelo Pulls Out

Alaska Airlines announced on July 31 that it would launch 7 new routes in the Pacific Northwest and California, with many flights scheduled to begin as early as October.

Three of the new routes alone will be from Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR). Additionally, the new routes will provide some exciting winter routes to destinations like Sun Valley, Idaho.

Here’s a look at the new routes and their frequencies:

Alaska will fly its workhorse 76-seat Embraer 175 on the routes. The E175 is designed for short-to-mid-range flights, making it a perfect choice for these West Coast flights.

Alaska’s West Coast expansion couldn’t come at a better time — and for Burbank customers in particular.

Just a few weeks ago, Avelo Airlines, which launched in Burbank in 2021, announced it would stop flying on the West Coast entirely by the end of 2025. The low-cost airline uses Burbank as a West Coast hub, and the airport is home to 3 of Avelo’s jets.

That means Avelo customers will lose out on nonstop flights on the West Coast, which include cities like Redmond and Eugene in Oregon and Burbank and Santa Rosa in California. In the wake of this news, Breeze announced a West Coast expansion, and now Alaska is also hoping to lure former Avelo customers.

How To Book Alaska’s New Flights

Flights for Alaska’s new West Coast routes are now available at AlaskaAir.com.

While we aren’t seeing promo fares, most are pretty affordable with cash and Alaska Mileage Plan miles, given how short the flights are.

For instance, we’re seeing flights from Burbank to Eugene starting at just $69 each way.

Final Thoughts

Given the timing, it’s easy to assume that Alaska is jumping into a market that needs new service following Avelo’s departure. The airline will launch 7 routes on the West Coast, including several to cities that Avelo is pulling out of. Ultimately, this is excellent news for travelers who will have new seasonal and yearly routes starting this fall, with flights launching as early as October 26.
