There’s some big news from the West Coast this morning. Alaska Airlines has announced 3 new exciting routes from San Diego (SAN). The carrier will now serve 44 nonstop destinations from this southern California airport.

There’s a lot to go over, so let’s get right to it!

Alaska Airlines Boosting San Diego Flights by 30%

Alaska Airlines announced on April 22 that it would add 3 new nonstop flights from San Diego (SAN) this summer and fall.

Here’s a look at the new routes and their frequencies:

Alaska will fly its Boeing 737 jets on the 3 new routes and will also fly the Embraer 175 to Denver (DEN).

But that’s not all. Alaska will also boost service to the following cities from San Diego this fall: Las Vegas (LAS), Sacramento (SMF), Salt Lake City (SLC), and San Jose, California (SJC). These flights begin on October 26, 2025. All will operate 6x daily, except Salt Lake City, which will operate 3x daily.

Several competitors, including American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines, also serve these routes. But where Alaska can shine is in cost, and the airline seems to be betting on lower fares to get customers into seats.

For instance, the cheapest round-trip flight to Chicago in early November is just $277 on Alaska.

In contrast, tickets for the exact same dates on United Airlines cost nearly $500 round-trip.

How To Book

Flights for Alaska’s new routes from San Diego are now live. Unfortunately, Alaska Airlines doesn’t seem to be offering promo fares on these new routes. Still, most are pretty cheap with cash and Alaska Mileage Plan miles.

We’re seeing fares as low as $97 round-trip from some cities.

But the deals are even better when using miles. We’re spotting round-trip tickets for as low as 10,000 Mileage Plan miles!

While Alaska Mileage Plan miles aren’t the easiest to earn, they are extremely valuable. They are the highest-valued airline miles of U.S.-based programs, according to our monthly valuations. They’re useful for flights not just on Alaska Airlines but also on airline partners.

You can earn Mileage Plan miles by flying Alaska, having an Alaska Airlines credit card, transferring points from Bilt Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy, and more.

Hot Tip:

Not an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan member yet? California and Hawaii residents who join the Mileage Plan loyalty program will receive $50 off their next flight when they enroll here. Customers living in other states can use this offer for $25 off their next flight.

Final Thoughts

Alaska Airlines is expanding in San Diego by launching 3 brand-new routes and expanding in cities where it currently operates. These are smart, strategic routes for Alaska. But for customers, there is competitive pricing on flights, especially on short-haul flights such as Las Vegas.
