American Airlines is introducing some new technological tools designed to create a more personal, streamlined, and intentional passenger experience.

The new tools include a creative way to book flights using AI, updates to mobile boarding passes for Apple and Google Wallets, and more technological innovations.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Experience-Based Flight Booking

Thanks to social media, travelers can now gain a better insight into what to expect from their destinations before they’ve even booked their ticket.

American wants to provide a similar experience for its travelers without going to social media first. With its new Gen AI-powered tool, would-be passengers can tell American Airlines exactly the kind of trip that they want to take.

A press release shows an example of a passenger writing in the search engine, “I want to go on a seven-day trip with friends where we can explore during the day and enjoy ourselves at night with good food.”

The video continues to show the AI tool providing options that fit the passenger’s brief, including live flight prices, so they can book immediately. Other options AA has hinted at include things like, “Show me the best places to play golf during the winter.”

A spokesperson for American says this tool is available to 50% of customers at present, and the goal is to roll it out to 100% of customers after conducting tests during the next 6 weeks.

Hot Tip:

If you’re a frequent American Airlines flyer, then you might want to consider using a co-branded AAdvantage credit card when booking flights for bonus perks and benefits.

Mobile Boarding Pass Updates

American is also streamlining the process for mobile boarding passes.

Passengers using the American Airlines app (iOS, Android) can now opt to have their boarding passes automatically added to their digital wallets.

A push notification in the app will request permission to do so.

Once this is allowed, boarding passes will auto-load into their Apple Wallet immediately after checking in.

For the first time, passengers with Android cell phones will also be able to add their boarding passes to their Google Wallets.

Missed Connection Departure Holds

Earlier in 2025, American rolled out a new technology at Charlotte (CLT), Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW), Miami (MIA), Philadelphia (PHL), and Phoenix (PHX) to reduce the number of passengers missing connections.

For example, if a passenger or several passengers are delayed on arrival into Miami and risk missing onward connections to São Paulo, the system can suggest a flight push back its departure time by a few minutes. A departure hold will be authorized only when there will be no negative knock-on impact to other passengers and schedules.

American hopes to roll the technology out to more airports in its network soon.

Final Thoughts

More than ever before, technology is part of our daily lives, and American Airlines wants to use it to its passengers’ advantage.

While not all passengers might find the AI booking tool to be useful, the updates to mobile boarding passes and using tech to reduce the possibility of missing a flight will likely be very well received.
