Streaming services are a large part of my recurring expenses. Between YouTube TV for live sports, YouTube Premium for ad-free videos, Netflix for binge-watching, the Disney Bundle for family favorites, and Spotify for music, these monthly costs add up quickly.

But what if I told you I turn all these bills into serious value every year? My secret weapon: paying with the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express.

Over a year, that amounts to more than $275 in annual value, and that’s before I consider any other earning possibilities that come with the card.

Earn 6% Cash-Back on Select U.S. Streaming Subscriptions

The Amex Blue Cash Preferred card earns 6% cash-back (earned as Reward Dollars) on select U.S. streaming subscriptions, with no cap on the points you can earn. That’s exceptionally high.

There are more than 30 eligible services, and fortunately, every single one of my streaming services qualifies. My family maximizes the 6% cash-back potential with the following streaming services:

  • YouTube TV and YouTube Premium: I use YouTube TV for live TV and sports ($82.99 per month) and YouTube Premium for ad-free music and videos ($13.99 per month). I also added the NFL Sunday Ticket ($276 per year) and the RedZone channel ($10.99 monthly) to my YouTube TV subscription. Altogether, I spend about $1,572 annually on YouTube TV and YouTube Premium, including add-ons. With 6% cash-back on all of it, I earn approximately $94 per year in cash-back, helping to lower my overall entertainment costs even more.
  • Netflix: I pay for the Netflix Premium plan, which offers 4K + HDR viewing, at $24.99 per month directly through Netflix. That earns me around $18 per year in cash-back.
  • Disney Bundle: I subscribe to the Legacy Disney Bundle for $21.99 monthly, covering Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. Since it’s all billed together, I earn about $16 per year in cash-back.
  • Spotify Family Plan: Our family plan is $19.99 monthly, billed directly through Spotify. With 6% back, that nets me about $14 per year in cash-back.
  • HBO Max: I pay $16.99 monthly for HBO Max Standard, which offers a great mix of movies and original shows. This nets me about $12 per year in cash-back.

By making these payments on a single card, I can easily track my streaming expenses and see my rewards add up in real time. Altogether, the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card helps me earn roughly $154 in cash-back rewards annually on these streaming service subscriptions.

You can utilize Reward Dollars earned on the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card as a statement credit — with no redemption minimums. This allows my family to find easy, tangible value in the hundreds of dollars we pay for these streaming services.

Hot Tip:

The Amex Blue Cash Preferred card also earns 6% cash-back at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 annually, then 1% cash-back), 3% cash-back at U.S. gas stations and transit. Check out our dedicated article for more details on the benefits of the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card.

Maximize the Disney Streaming Credit

The 6% cash-back earnings on select U.S. streaming services aren’t all, though. Amex has recently enhanced the total value of the Disney Streaming credit (enrollment required).

Amex Blue Cash Preferred cardholders can now receive up to $10 back in monthly statement credits to purchase a subscription (or bundle subscription) on DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com, or Plus.espn.com U.S. websites. Subscription is subject to auto-renewal.

Final Thoughts

For many of us, the number of streaming service subscriptions keeps growing. Instead of accepting these costs, I use the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card to reward myself monthly.

I highly recommend considering the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card if you’re paying for multiple streaming services. It’s one of the easiest ways to turn a routine monthly expense into serious cash-back, which, with a bit of planning, can add up to hundreds of dollars in your pocket each year.
