Streaming services have become an essential element in our lives. Whether you’re listening to premium radio programming while driving, watching a movie in the evening, or catching up on news, chances are you’ve enjoyed at least 1 streaming service.

A February 2024 Forbes Home survey revealed that 78% of all U.S. households subscribe to at least 1 streaming service. Netflix alone has more than 232 million paid subscribers worldwide.

If your household spends significantly on streaming services, you may want to find the best credit cards for earning rewards on those purchases. That’s what we’re here to talk about today.

If you pay for streaming services, there’s a way to earn bonus rewards — and we’re happy to show you how. Let’s look at which cards offer bonus earnings for this ongoing expense.

Hide SummaryShow Summary

What Qualifies As a Streaming Service?

Several credit cards offer elevated earnings on purchases of streaming services.

However, which streaming services qualify for direct-purchase bonus earnings differs by the credit card issuer. We’ll cover additional definitions later for other card issuers, but we’re starting with the list published by American Express, as it’s the most extensive.

Here’s the American Express list of qualifying streaming service providers for elevated earnings on American Express-issued cards. Some cards may require these services to be from U.S. streaming subscriptions only:

  • Amazon Music Unlimited
  • Apple Music
  • Apple TV+
  • Audible
  • DirecTV Stream (formerly known as AT&T TV or AT&T TV NOW)
  • Disney+
  • ESPN+
  • Fubo TV
  • HBO Max
  • HBO (standalone streaming subscription only, formerly known as HBONow)
  • Hulu
  • iHeartRadio
  • Kindle Unlimited
  • Luminary
  • MLB.TV
  • NBA League Pass
  • Netflix
  • NHL.TV
  • Pandora
  • Paramount+
  • Peacock
  • Prime Video
  • Showtime
  • Sling TV
  • Spotify
  • Stitcher
  • TIDAL Music
  • YouTube Music Premium
  • YouTube Premium
  • YouTube TV

If your subscription to any of these services is bundled with other products or services or is billed by a third party, your purchase may not be eligible for bonus earnings.

Bottom Line:

Each credit card that offers bonus earnings on the direct purchase of streaming services has a unique list of streaming services that count as qualifying purchases.

The 12 Best Cards for Streaming Services

Whether you pay for your streaming services directly with the provider or purchase gift cards at supermarkets, drugstores, warehouse clubs, or other bonus category merchants, there are plenty of earning opportunities when you use the right credit cards.

Additional Options for Earning on Streaming Services

There are different ways to secure bonus earnings on streaming services. You can purchase the services directly from the streaming services provider. Or you may be able to purchase streaming-service gift cards from a qualifying bonus-category merchant, such as an office supply store or supermarket.

Amex Offers

Amex Offers are bonus-earning and savings opportunities within your online Amex card account, and streaming services are often featured. Select the offer you want, add it to your card, and make a qualifying purchase from the featured merchant or service provider. Enrollment is required.

Chase Offers

All Chase credit and debit cards are eligible for Chase Offers. You find these money-saving offers, which can include streaming services, by logging in to your Chase account online. Select the offer, add it to your card, make a qualifying purchase, and receive bonus earnings.

Shop through Chase

Ultimate Rewards-earning cards can earn bonus points via Shop through Chase. You can find these offers in the Ultimate Rewards section of your online Chase account.

Select the vendor you want to shop with and click the shopping link. The merchants change, as do the level of earnings, but these bonus points are in addition to what you would typically earn using your Chase card.

You occasionally find streaming service providers and merchants that sell streaming-service gift cards on Shop through Chase, but some offers do exclude gift card purchases.

Bottom Line:

You can receive elevated earnings or savings on streaming-service purchases by purchasing directly from a qualifying streaming-service provider, purchasing streaming-service gift cards at bonus-category merchants, via Shop through Chase, or through Amex Offers or Chase Offers.

Final Thoughts

If you’re currently spending a lot on streaming services, it can make sense to ensure that those purchases are made with a card that earns rewards for direct purchases or via gift cards purchased at bonus-category merchants.

However, unless you’re spending an inordinate amount on these services, selecting a card solely to earn rewards for streaming services may not be prudent.

It helps to list all of your ongoing expenses and select a card that rewards your largest purchases, has a great welcome bonus offer, has an annual fee you feel comfortable paying, offers redemptions you find valuable, and includes benefits you would actually use.

A single card may not cover all those bases, but you can get close.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best credit card for streaming services?

The best card for streaming services may not be the card that rewards those purchases directly. For example, the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card offers 6% cash-back earnings on select U.S. streaming services purchases. Still, there are other cards that offer earnings at bonus category merchants that sell streaming-service gift cards. The card that is best for your streaming-service purchases depends on your mix of spending, whether you want to pay an annual fee, and how much you value card-provided benefits.

What counts as a streaming service?

Any credit card that offers bonus earnings on streaming services has its own list of eligible services. For example, leading issuers Amex and Chase each publish a specific list of eligible streaming-service providers.

How do Amex Offers work?

If you have an Amex-issued card, you may have Amex Offers that can save you money or provide bonus earnings. The offers are in your online account and can be accessed by logging in and scrolling down to Amex Offers and Benefits. Enroll in the offer you wish to use and add it to your card. Use that card to make the eligible purchase and receive the statement credit or bonus earnings.

How do Chase Offers work?

When you log in to your Chase-issued card account, even your debit card account, you can find offers from Chase. Add the offer to your card, purchase it with the corresponding card, and receive a statement credit. Each card offers its own set of offers, and new offers are added regularly, while old ones are phased out.
