American Express will open its fourth Centurion Lounge at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) on August 1.

The new lounge will be located in Terminal 1 and will feature 8,400 square feet of space. Here is a look at the various amenities travelers can enjoy when flying out of Mexico’s capital and most populous city.

New Mexico City (MEX) Centurion Lounge Details

Guests can expect many of the standard Centurion Lounge amenities offered across the entire network, like complimentary food and beverages, a full bar, comfortable seating areas, Wi-Fi, private phone booths, and a new amenity we’ve yet to see offered at a Centurion Lounge—a shoe cleaning service.

Famous chef Jonatan Gómez Luna, whose Cancun restaurant Le Chique recently received a Michelin star, will create a locally inspired menu for the lounge.

Those who have traveled through MEX before might be aware that the airport already features three Centurion Lounges: one in Terminal 2 and one domestic and one international lounge in Terminal 1. The newest lounge will also be located in the domestic area of Terminal 1 to help reduce crowding in the current lounge.

Travelers will be able to visit the lounge daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. CST.

How To Access an Amex Centurion Lounge

You’ll be able to access the new Amex Centurion Lounge at MEX, along with every other Amex Centurion Lounge, by holding one of the following cards:

Note that cardholders of the Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card don’t just receive access to U.S. Amex Centurion Lounges and International Amex Centurion Lounges, but also Priority Pass lounges (upon enrollment), Escape Lounges – The Centurion Studio PartnerPlaza Premium LoungesAspire Lounge, select Virgin Clubhouses, select Lufthansa lounges when flying with Lufthansa Group the same day, and Delta Sky Clubs when flying with Delta the same day.

Hot Tip:

With over 1,400 lounges worldwide, the Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum card offer the most comprehensive lounge access benefit of any travel credit card. But, they don’t function like typical credit cards — they allow you to carry a balance for certain charges, but not all.

Final Thoughts

Crowding in Amex Centurion Lounges is a common complaint, so it is great to see that American Express is taking steps to improve this by both opening new lounges and increasing the size of current lounges.

In case you missed it, the card issuer recently launched its latest Centurion Lounge at Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) earlier this month and is currently in the works to bring a Centurion Lounge to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) that is set to launch in 2026.
