Your options for American Express credit cards just went down by 3. That’s because American Express is no longer accepting applications for the American Express Cash Magnet® Card, The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card, and The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card.

Here’s what you should know if you have these cards, as well as other options to consider if you had been planning to apply for these cards.

The information regarding the Amex Cash Magnet card, Amex EveryDay card, and the Amex EveryDay Preferred card was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.

American Express Closes Applications for 3 Credit Cards

If you don’t already have the Amex EveryDay Preferred card, Amex EveryDay card, or Amex Cash Magnet card, you can’t obtain them. That’s because American Express is no longer accepting applications for these cards.

Application links for the cards no longer work, and referral links for the cards don’t lead to an application either. These 3 cards have also disappeared from American Express’ website.

“On September 25, 2024, American Express’ Cash Magnet, Amex Everyday and Amex Everyday Preferred Cards will be closed to new applicants,” according to a spokesperson for American Express. “Existing Cash Magnet, Amex Everyday, and Amex Everyday Preferred Card Members can continue to use their Cards just as they do today with no changes.”

Across our team members who have these cards, we attempted to generate referral links. These now send applicants to a general page listing all available Amex cards. Moreover, when logged in, anyone with these affected cards should see a notification that the card’s artwork is changing — but nothing else is.

That’s good news for existing cardholders, as they can continue to enjoy the features of their existing cards.

What Other Cards Should You Consider?

If you were thinking about applying for the Amex EveryDay Preferred card, Amex EveryDay card, or Amex Cash Magnet card, you’ll need to look for other options.

To substitute the Amex EveryDay Preferred card or Amex EveryDay card, consult our list of the best credit cards for supermarkets. You’ll find options here with no annual fee or a sub-$100 annual fee that should fit well in your wallet.

Instead of the Amex Cash Magnet card, consider the Citi Double Cash® Card or Chase Freedom Unlimited®. The Citi Double Cash card earns 2% cash-back on all purchases — awarded as 1% when you buy and 1% when you pay your bill — while the Freedom Unlimited card earns 1.5% cash-back on non-bonus purchases.

Final Thoughts

American Express has closed applications for the Amex EveryDay Preferred card, Amex EveryDay card, or Amex Cash Magnet card. Luckily, existing cardholders can continue using their cards as normal. However, anyone who was considering applying for these 3 cards will need to explore other options.
