As credit card issuers aggressively compete to unlock new once-in-a-lifetime experiences in travel, dining, and entertainment, cardholders are the beneficiaries.

American Express is the latest issuer to unveil a lifestyle-like partnership, with a new multi-year-long deal with Formula (F1) in the Americas.

Here are the details of this new partnership — and a look at how cardholders can initially benefit.

Amex’s New F1 Sponsorship

On October 16, 2023, Amex announced a regional partnership that will make it the official payments partner of F1 in the Americas, with races in Austin, Mexico City, São Paulo, Las Vegas, Miami, and Montreal. It’s the first new sports vertical Amex is forging in more than a decade.

“The F1 fan base and viewership has grown exponentially over the past several years, so we are thrilled to bring the exclusive access and unique experiences that American Express is known for to our card members and racing fans,” said Elizabeth Rutledge, Chief Marketing Officer, American Express. “The addition of F1 to our global portfolio of partnerships helps us continue to create meaningful value for our customers, in the areas they’re most passionate about.”

How Cardholders Can Benefit

As F1 Americas’ official payments partner, Amex cardholders will receive a range of benefits, such as early access to F1 Experiences ticket packages available at all races. Additional onsite perks will be available in North, Central, and South America including complimentary Amex Race Radios and other amenities.

Cardholders can take advantage of perks as soon as this weekend, when F1 comes to Austin for the United States Grand Prix from October 20 to 22, 2023. In Las Vegas, Amex will have a presence at the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix that’s taking place from November 16 to 18, 2023. The issuer will offer an exclusive Amex fan experience center located next to the course (reservations for the space will be made available at a later date).

Final Thoughts

Lately, big credit card issuers are going beyond the bounds of what might be called traditional travel with exclusive access to sports, concerts, and film festivals. Amex’s new integration with the world of F1 in the Americas is the newest push toward creating an ever-evolving lineup of perks for cardholders.
