Check your accounts, because American Express just rolled out a nice Amex Offer for IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Now through June 16, 2023, when you spend $200 or more at participating IHG properties in the U.S., you can get $40 back.
Let’s take a look at the promotion details.
Amex Offer: Spend $200 or More at IHG, Get $40 Back
If you’re unfamiliar with Amex Offers, these benefits are given to those who hold an eligible American Express card. The types of benefits you can receive with these offers will depend and can vary from additional bonus points to rebates, to discounts. Amex Offers are free to add to your cards, though you’ll need to be logged into your account to do so.
This new Amex Offer is targeting IHG loyalists with the ability to earn $40 back when you spend $200 on your card:
- Valid until June 16, 2023
- Must make $200 in one or more purchases at eligible IHG properties
- Valid for room rate or room charges
- Participating properties include those in the U.S. and U.S. territories
- Excludes the following brands: The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas, The Palazzo® at the Venetian® Resort Las Vegas, IHG® Army Hotels, Mr. & Mrs. Smith properties, and Iberostar Beachfront Resorts
Is It Worth It?
Although the promotion is a bit limiting as it can only be used for U.S. hotels, there’s definitely still some value to be had. If you have existing plans, it could be worth it to change over and charge your room rate to your Amex card instead. Getting $40 back on $200 constitutes a 20% return, which is way better than you’ll find anywhere else.
Hot Tip: Best use case for this Amex Offer? Make sure you get your charges as close to $200 as possible — any more than that, and your discount becomes a diminishing return. If you’ve got a pretty expensive stay or you’re going to be in a hotel for multiple nights, consider splitting the payment over more than one card.
As it stands, Amex that’ll include this offer, such as The Platinum Card® from American Express, will earn just 1x Membership Rewards point spent on your IHG stay.
Meanwhile, other cards, like the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, will earn 10x IHG points per dollar spent. This is obviously a far better return, so it’s worth looking into splitting your payments to maximize your earnings and discounts.
Final Thoughts
Amex Offers are always worth looking at, especially since you can often find a great deal on points or rebates. This newest promotion includes a rebate with IHG allowing you to get up to 20% of your money back on hotels in the U.S. If you’re interested, be sure to log into your account and add it to your card!
