The Platinum Card® from American Express got a big refresh recently. Among its updated and new benefits is a perk you might overlook: Uber One membership credits.

On its surface, it doesn’t appear that exciting. However, I’m a huge fan. Allow me to explain why I’m excited about this perk — mostly due to the way it interacts with an existing Amex Platinum card benefit.

What Is Uber One?

Uber One is a paid subscription service that provides extra perks on Uber rides and Uber Eats orders. You can pay $9.99 per month or $96 per year, plus any applicable taxes.

Uber One members get unlimited $0 delivery fees on eligible Uber Eats overs upon meeting the minimum subtotals. In addition, they get 6% in Uber One credits on eligible Uber rides and up to 10% off eligible orders on Uber Eats.

The savings stack up the more you use Uber and Uber Eats. To be clear, Uber One renews automatically until you cancel the service.

Hot Tip:

Along with the Amex Platinum card, Amex also added Uber One credits to several Delta credit cards recently. If you have a Delta credit card upon enrollment, don’t overlook this perk.

How Amex Platinum Card’s New Uber One Benefit Works

After a big refresh earlier this month, the Amex Platinum card now boasts an $895 annual fee (rates & fees) and several new benefits — along with others that were updated to provide more value.

One of the Amex Platinum card’s new benefits is a an Uber One perk worth up to $120 annually. This benefit is valid on payments for a monthly or annual Uber One membership, providing a maximum of $120 in statement credits to offset your spending.

Amex Platinum Card — Uber Benefits

The Amex Platinum card has long already offered another Uber perk: up to $200 in Uber Cash annually valid on Uber rides and Uber Eats orders in the U.S. To receive this benefit, add your Amex Platinum card as a payment method in your Uber account, then you’ll receive $15 in Uber Cash automatically in your account each month — though you’ll receive a $20 bonus in December. Then, pay for your U.S. Uber rides or Uber Eats orders with an American Express card.

Combined with the new Uber One benefit, the Amex Platinum card is now a powerhouse when it comes to Uber rides and food delivery in the U.S.. Without any out-of-pocket spending, you can get up to $200 worth of rides or food each year.

Even when using your Uber Cash, you should still be able to enjoy Uber One benefits like waived delivery feeds and discounts on rides — stretching your Uber Cash even further. Once you’ve exhausted your Uber Cash each month, you can enjoy savings on restaurant and grocery delivery and on rides.

It’s not every day that you can have your cake and eat it, too, as the saying goes. However, getting Uber Cash for rides and orders — that cardholders can now book with a discount or waived delivery fees — increases the value of the value of both of these perks.

Final Thoughts

By adding an Uber One benefit to the Amex Platinum card, American Express now offers 2 Uber benefits on its premium consumer card that manage to work in tandem to become even more valuable.

The Uber Cash benefit — an existing perk for cardholders — is more valuable because it will go further, thanks to discounts and waived delivery fees available with the new Uber One benefit. The Uber One benefit becomes more valuable because there’s Uber Cash available to spend on these discount rides and deliveries.

Put together, the new Uber One perk has me excited. I wouldn’t pay for this benefit on its own, but getting it for no out-of-pocket cost and then increasing the value of the existing Uber benefit is pretty awesome.
