American Express Membership Rewards and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club have a partnership that’s allowed travelers to unlock incredible value in exchange for their points. And now, the duo is back with a new promotion that can help you book these flights at an even better rate.

For a limited time, you can transfer Membership Rewards points to Virgin Points and get a 40% bonus!

Let’s examine the details of this promotion and consider how you can maximize it!

Virgin Atlantic Transfer Bonus

American Express members can transfer their Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and get a 40% bonus.

Normally, points are transferred at a 1:1 ratio, but during the promotion, you will get 1,400 Virgin Points for every 1,000 you transfer.

This promotion appears to be available for all cardholders and is valid through December 31, 2024.

Hot Tip:

Stay up to date on all of the latest transfer bonuses for each of the transferable point currencies by using our transfer partner tool calculator!

Maximize by Flying ANA First or Business Class

Perhaps the best use of Virgin Points is booking premium award flights with ANA. Virgin Atlantic and ANA already share an excellent award chart, but with the 40% bonus, you’re able to score extraordinary value!

Usually, round-trip flights in ANA business class start at 90,000 from the West Coast and 95,000 from the East Coast, with ANA first class charging 145,000 from the West Coast and 170,000 from the East Coast.

Now, thanks to the 40% transfer bonus, you can book these flights at the following rates:

  • Honolulu (HNL) to Tokyo (HND) round-trip for 50,000 points in business class and 83,000 in first class
  • New York (JFK) to Tokyo (HND) round-trip for 67,000 points in business class and 122,000 in first class
  • San Francisco (SFO) to Tokyo (HND) round-trip for 65,000 points in business class and 104,000 in first class

Final Thoughts

A limited-time transfer bonus is a great incentive to try and plan out some future bookings — and save a lot of points while doing so!

However, make sure you have a specific use in mind before transferring points, as it’s never a good idea to do a speculative transfer. If you do decide to take advantage of this transfer bonus, make sure you do so before it ends on December 31!
