Avelo Airlines is jumping into the co-branded credit card game. The budget airline just launched a new credit card with Cardless, the Avelo Airlines World Elite Mastercard.

With the card, you’ll get a sweet welcome bonus offer plus Avelo-specific perks, aimed at making your travels better.

New Avelo Credit Card

Avelo Airlines announced on January 27 its first co-branded credit card, the Avelo Airlines World Elite Mastercard.

The card — which has a $99 annual fee — comes with the following perks:

For instance, you’ll earn 5% Avelo Cash for each $1 spent on qualifying Avelo purchases made directly with the airline, and 2% Avelo Cash for each $1 spent on qualifying purchases.

The card is issued by Cardless, a fintech company. In announcing the card, Avelo CEO Andrew Levy called the partnership between Avelo and Cardless a “wake-up call for the industry.”

“With three decades of experience in aviation, I’ve seen legacy bank partnerships consistently fall short of what airlines and customers truly need,” Levy said.

Bottom Line:

Avelo’s new card comes just weeks after a major shakeup for the airline. In early January, the airline said it would focus on 4 main hubs and close several of its bases. Avelo said it would use the “cash infusion and balance sheet strength” from the moves to execute its long-term strategy.

Introductory Welcome Offer

The new Avelo World Elite card offers a welcome bonus of 25,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. While we don’t have valuations for Avelo points, the airline says it’s equivalent to $250 in Avelo Cash (which can be used for flights).

Is It Worth It?

If you fly Avelo frequently — or are based in a focus city — this card can make sense. The 25,000-point offer seems enticing; however, Avelo Cash can be cumbersome and difficult to actually use.

If you’re a frequent Avelo customer but don’t want to add a new card to your wallet, consider signing up for Avelo Plus. The program offers exclusive perks — like priority boarding — and the ability to stack them with Avelo’s frequent promotions.

The Avelo Airlines World Elite card isn’t the only way to earn points or miles on Avelo purchases. By simply having a credit card that rewards you for travel purchases, you can earn bonus points or miles, plus perks like lounge access and travel credits. Those can apply regardless of the airline you’re flying on any particular day.

Final Thoughts

Avelo has launched a new credit card, which comes with a pretty decent welcome bonus offer. The card makes the most sense if you fly Avelo regularly or want perks like a free carry-on bag or priority boarding with the airline.
