Avelo Airlines, the low-cost start-up airline, has announced the largest air service expansion in Wilmington Airport (ILG) history, with 8 new nonstop destinations.

“With the kickoff of Avelo’s service to eight new destinations, Wilmington Airport now offers nonstop flights to 13 destinations, the most in the history of our airport,” said Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) Executive Director Thomas J. Cook.

Let’s take a closer look at this exciting development for the state of Delaware.

Wilmington Gets 8 New Destinations From Avelo

Avelo is expanding across the East Coast and South with 8 new destinations from its base in Wilmington.

Avelo launched service between ILG and the following destinations: Myrtle Beach (MYR); Nashville (BNA); Raleigh-Durham (RDU); Savannah-Hilton Head (SAV); Wilmington, Nort Carolina (ILM); Charleston, (CHS); Daytona Beach (DAB); and GreenvilleSpartanburg (GSP).

Avelo is advertising special introductory one-way fares from just $34. Remember, though, that these fares will not include a checked bag or seat selection.

Ultimately, this is excellent news for Delawareans who otherwise would need to travel to nearby Philadelphia (PHL) to catch a flight.

With the expansion, Avelo now serves a total of 13 destinations from ILG. Avelo began service at ILG back in February, with flights to 5 nonstop destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers (RSW), Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), and West Palm Beach (PBI).

“Since arriving at Wilmington Airport in February, it is abundantly clear travelers from across the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region value the affordable, convenient, and reliable air service Avelo offers,” said Avelo Airlines Founder, Chairman, and CEO Andrew Levy.

There is also no ambiguity that the fast, easy, and travel-friendly small hometown airport experience ILG offers is playing an equally important role [in] inspiring people from across the greater Philadelphia region to travel with us,” Levy continued.

This news comes just days after Avelo announced a new hub coming in the fall of 2023. Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas will become its newest base as of September. Avelo will begin service between LAS and Bend, Oregon (RDM); Brownsville, Texas (BRO); Dubuque, Iowa (DBQ); and Eureka, California (ACV).

Bottom Line: Avelo Airlines launched in April 2021 and today serves 44 destinations in 24 states.

Final Thoughts

Avelo Airlines has announced Wilmington’s largest expansion in its history, which is excellent news for travelers in the region, including nearby Philadelphia.

The ultra-low-cost start-up will provide new jobs and travel possibilities on either end of the new routes. We can’t wait to see what’s next for the rapidly-expanding Avelo!
