Here’s what you need to know!
Avelo Airlines, a low-cost carrier, announced on October 19 that it would begin service between Lexington, Kentucky’s Blue Grass Airport (LEX) and Orlando (MCO), and Newport News-Williamsburg, Virginia (PHF) to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
Service between LEX and MCO will be flown on Avelo’s Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays through October 23, 2022. Avelo will switch to Wednesdays and Saturdays starting October 26, 2022.
The airline will also add service from LEX to Tampa (TPA) on November 12, 2022.
Additionally, the Hampton Roads, Virginia, region will also get service to and from Florida on Avelo. Flights to and from FLL and MCO from Newport News will be twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays.
Both airports are on the smaller side: LEX offers 16 nonstop flights to cities like Atlanta (ATL) and Charlotte (CLT). PHF offers nonstop service to just a single airport: Charlotte.
“As one of the top travel destinations from Lexington, we are confident service to the Orlando area will continue to flourish with the addition of these nonstop flights to Orlando International Airport,” Blue Grass Airport CEO Eric Frankl said in a statement.
In a statement, Avelo CEO Andrew Levy noted that the new route was the Virginia Peninsula’s only nonstop service to Florida.
“That means getting to the Sunshine State is now affordable and easier than ever,” Levy said. “Avelo’s refreshingly convenient, reliable, and caring service is a perfect fit with Newport News-Williamsburg Airport’s easygoing hometown airport experience.”
To celebrate the launches, Avelo is offering promo fares from both airports, starting at $49.
These tickets must be booked by October 26, 2022, and note that fares are available on a limited number of flights and seats. You’ll also want to book your tickets online, as calling the airline’s customer service line to book will incur a $20 fee.
Finally, remember that Avelo is a low-cost airline, which means you’ll pay extra for checked baggage and seat selection.
