After completely removing business class in the Americas in 2022, Avianca has finally reintroduced its most premium class of service on all routes.

Passengers flying in business class to all destinations in the Americas will now experience the Colombian airline’s take on service at the front of the plane. Don’t get too excited, though, as it’s still a little different from what you might expect.

Let’s take a look at what you’ll find when taking a business class flight with Avianca.

Avianca Business Class Service in the Americas

Avianca has an expansive route network connecting North and Central America with South America via its Bogotá (BOG) hub.

On its 14 routes to the U.S., it primarily uses its Airbus A320 family fleet. These are narrow-body planes that don’t feature lie-flat beds in business class.

After slowly reintroducing business class service across its entire network, passengers will now experience it on every single flight. However, Avianca’s business class is far less premium than what you might expect from a full-service carrier.

Credit where credit’s due, Avianca’s A320s have been retrofitted with wider seats, more pitch, and a blocked middle complete with a shared table.

As a side note, this has come at the expense of passenger comfort in economy. To make room for the larger premium seats at the front, Avianca squeezed in as many hard, slimline seats with very tight legroom as possible.

While the seats will be pretty much the same on whichever Airbus A320 you fly, the business-class service will vary depending on the route. Avianca’s website lists 2 categories: domestic routes and flights under 3 hours on the one hand, plus routes longer than 3 hours on the other.

Avianca often shows up as the cheapest way to fly between North and South America. For example, Avianca offers round-trip flights between New York (JFK) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG) for $1,895.

That’s around $3,000 less than a nonstop flight with American or Delta. If you’re willing to forgo a lie-flat seat and inflight entertainment, then Avianca might just be the low-cost-style business class for you.

Hot Tip:

Avianca also flies its Boeing 787 Dreamliners with lie-flat business class on some routes within the Americas, like Miami (MIA) and São Paulo (GRU). If you’re tempted by Avianca’s low prices, then try to choose a flight operated by this aircraft for a more premium lie-flat experience.

Final Thoughts

Avianca has finally fully reinstated its business class service on all routes, including all domestic and short-haul flights in the Americas. If you’re open to a low-cost business-class experience and enjoy a bargain, then Avianca might be the airline for you.
