Avianca Adds 4 New U.S. Routes, Tampa Service Debuts

Avianca is actively broadening its U.S. network. Recently, it launched 4 new direct Latin American routes and debuted a new U.S. city.

U.S. travelers will now have even more options to connect to magical countries like Colombia, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico.

Plus, the Colombian flagship carrier debuted a new route from Tampa (TPA) to Bogota, Colombia, marking the first time Avianca has operated direct flights to Colombia from the Gulf Coast city of Tampa, Florida.

“Tampa International Airport has achieved a major milestone in connecting Tampa Bay to Bogota,” TPA CEO Joe Lopano said. “With our new airline partner Avianca, TPA now has nonstop flights to South America for the very first time, giving our residents unparalleled access to Colombia and beyond.”

Here are the new routes along with the schedules:

Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays (outbound) — depart at 7:30 a.m. and arrive at 12:40 p.m.

Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays (inbound) — depart at 2:10 p.m. and arrive at 3:25 p.m.

Tampa (TPA) to Bogota (BOG)

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays (outbound) — depart at 2:15 p.m. and arrive at 5:10 p.m.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (inbound) — depart at 7:15 a.m. and arrive at 12:15 p.m.

Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Medellin (MDE)

Daily (outbound) — depart at 4:30 p.m. and arrive at 6:50 p.m.

Daily (inbound) — depart at 10:20 a.m. and arrive at 2:45 p.m.

Miami (MIA) to San Jose (SJO)

Daily (outbound) — depart at 9:40 p.m. and arrive at 10:40 p.m.

Daily (inbound) — depart at 8:25 a.m. and arrive at 1:15 p.m.

In addition to launching Tampa service to Bogota, Avianca is offering an intriguing new fifth freedom flight from San Juan (SJU) to San Jose (SJO), creating a direct link between Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.

Furthermore, Avianca now directly competes with Spirit Airlines and JetBlue, the only other airlines offering direct flights from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Medellín, Colombia.

These new routes are being operated by the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, which can accommodate up to 180 passengers.
