This summer, Lufthansa is coming to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) with a 5x-weekly service to Frankfurt, Germany. This new route adds to the North Carolina airport’s growing list of transatlantic flights, which boasts existing routes to London, Paris, and Reykjavik.

Now, our team has spotted excellent award availability on the route — even in business class for up to 9 passengers! If you’re thinking of a trip to Europe this summer, you’ll want to act fast before these fares disappear.

Award Deal — Details

Lufthansa’s upcoming service between Raleigh-Durham and Frankfurt will commence on June 6, 2024. We found plenty of availability for Summer 2024, making it one of the best ways to redeem your points and miles to Europe.

  • Class: Business
  • Flight Number: LH409
  • Route: Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to Frankfurt (FRA)
  • Cost: 70,000 Air Canada Aeroplan points + $57 in taxes and fees
  • Dates: June through August 2024
  • Seats: Available for up to 9 passengers

The airline flies its Airbus A330-300 on this route, which has business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration. While not the most comfortable seating arrangement for solo travelers, this is undoubtedly an excellent way for families or couples to fly comfortably to Europe for the 8.5-hour flight.

Air Canada and Lufthansa are both part of the Star Alliance, meaning you can book reciprocal flights on either carrier using your points and miles.

Earning Air Canada Aeroplan points is easy, as you can transfer your Amex Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One Miles, and Chase Ultimate Rewards points to the loyalty program instantly at a 1:1 ratio. (You can also transfer Marriott Bonvoy points at a less-than-ideal rate of 3:1).

While business class is the stellar deal here, you could also fly Lufthansa’s economy class for just 40,000 points and the same amount of taxes and fees (under $60). There’s plenty of availability on the return flight from Frankfurt to Raleigh-Durham as well, but the taxes and fees are notably higher at roughly $190 per person.

Hot Tip:

Lufthansa’s frequent flyer program, Miles & More, has a monthly promotion offering discounted award flights for 55,000 miles round-trip in business class, which is one of the best award deals out there. Check out this month’s version of Lufthansa Mileage Bargains!

Final Thoughts

Traveling to Europe this summer doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg thanks to these business class fares we found with Lufthansa. These round-trip flights can easily exceed $4,000, so you know you’re getting extraordinary value with your points and miles with this award booking.
