Update:The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Air Canada’s Aeroplan program is offering flyers an extra push to book summer travel to Europe with the carrier.

If you book by March 1, 2023, you can earn 3,500 bonus Aeroplan points for economy flights or 7,000 bonus Aeroplan points for premium economy or business class flights.

Here’s what you need to know about this offer.

Bonus Aeroplan Points on Flights to Europe This Summer

Book by March 1, 2023, and travel through September 30, 2023, and you can earn bonus Aeroplan points on your round-trip or two one-way flights to and from Europe.

According to the airline, “Economy Latitude, comfort, Economy Flex, and Economy Standard” fares are eligible to earn 3,500 bonus points, while “Business Class flexible, Business Class lowest, Premium Economy flexible, Premium Economy lowest, Premium Rouge flexible, and Premium Rouge lowest” fares are eligible to earn 7,000 bonus points.

Here’s some more of the fine print you should be aware of:

  • The promotional period is valid from now through March 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. PST.
  • The promotion is valid only for Aeroplan members whose accounts are in good standing. If you’re not a member already, you can sign up for free here.
  • Registration is required for this promotion.
  • The promotion is valid for 2 one-way flights or a round-trip flight.
  • Bonus points do count for Everyday Status Qualification.
  • Bonus points are not Status Qualifying Miles (SQMs).
  • Bonus points will be credited to your account up to 6 weeks after qualifying flights are flown.

Is It Worth It?

As flights must originate in Canada to be eligible for this promotion, it may be more effort than its worth.

We value 3,500 Aeroplan points at about $53, and 7,000 points at about $105. So, unless you live near a Canadian city or have plans to be in Canada already before a trip across the pond, it’s likely not worth going out of your way to take advantage of this promotion.

However, if you are able to find a great deal from Canada to Europe for summer travel and can easily (and cheaply) position yourself to a Canadian airport to catch it, there’s no reason not to earn the bonus points on your flights.

Plus, Aeroplan points are great for redeeming on long-haul, premium-cabin flights, so we’d never say no to having some extra points sitting in our accounts. Not to mention, Aeroplan points can be earned easily because the program has transfer relationships with a number of flexible-point programs including American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One Miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Marriott Bonvoy.

Earning bonus points from flight promotions means you’ll be able to transfer fewer valuable miles from one of these programs to book your next bucket-list trip.

Final Thoughts

Aeroplan’s latest promotion is a great way to earn some bonus points on popular summer travel. While we wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to take advantage of the promotion, if you find yourself in a position to do so without exerting a ton of extra effort (or money), this is a solid opportunity to bolster your Aeroplan balance for future redemptions.
