United Airlines and ITA Airways of Italy announced a new partnership last week that involves reciprocal mileage earning and redeeming, plus certain loyalty benefits.

The new partnership took effect yesterday, September 8, 2025, and now it looks like we’re seeing the real-life results, as award flights on board ITA Airways are now bookable on United’s website.

Book ITA Airways Flights With United Miles

ITA Airways flights have started popping up on United’s website and are bookable with United MileagePlus miles. You will have to do a bit of hunting to find itineraries with flights operated by ITA, and we’re not seeing many premium cabin flights available at this point. You’ll have a much easier time finding available economy flights.

In our research, connecting itineraries have been easier to find, but we did find an example of a nonstop ITA route between the U.S. and its hub at Rome-Fiumicino (FCO).

As a reminder, ITA serves the following U.S. airports nonstop from Rome:

Let’s have a look at what we’ve found on the second day of this new partnership between the current and future Star Alliance members.

First, we’ll look at an example of an itinerary that involves a long-haul segment on a United flight and an intra-Europe segment on ITA Airways, such as this itinerary from Washington, D.C. to Rome with a connection in Frankfurt (FRA):

Here, United operates the long-haul segment and ITA the short-haul segment. All 3 cabin classes are available to book with United MileagePlus miles, albeit at pretty high rates for everything except economy.

Next, we have another itinerary between Washington, D.C., and Rome. This time, United operates the short-haul flight between Dulles and Miami, while ITA operates the long-haul segment from Miami to Rome.

In this example, only economy seats are available — at a cost of 44,000 miles and $5.60 one-way.

Finally, we have an example of a nonstop itinerary operated solely by ITA Airways, flying from Los Angeles to Rome.

Again, only economy flights are available at a rate of 44,000 miles and $5.60.

While not exactly widespread at the moment, it’s nice to see ITA Airways flights available for booking through United channels. We expect the availability situation to improve as the airlines collaborate more closely.

Final Thoughts

ITA Airways is looking more and more like a Star Alliance carrier. Just a week after announcing a partnership with United Airlines, the Italian carrier’s flights are starting to become available for booking through United channels and with United miles.

As full Star Alliance integration draws nearer, we look forward to this partnership expanding and even more availability in the coming weeks and months.
