Though many are unfamiliar with it, Avianca LifeMiles is a useful program to leverage when booking award tickets with Star Alliance carriers such as United Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and more.

And while you wouldn’t ordinarily want to purchase Avianca LifeMiles at the standard rate, the latest promotion gives you a 170% bonus and represents an excellent value.

Here’s a look at how you can take advantage!

Purchase Avianca LifeMiles and Get a 170% Bonus

Through April 9, 2024, you’ll earn a bonus when purchasing Avianca LifeMiles at the following tiers:

  • Purchase 1,000 to 15,000 miles and get a 140% bonus (1.38 cents per mile)
  • Purchase 16,000 to 30,000 miles and get a 155% bonus (1.29 cents per mile)
  • Purchase 31,000+ miles and get a 170% bonus (1.22 cents per mile)

Since this is a targeted offer, the exact amount of bonus points you are targeted for may differ. We value Avianca LifeMiles at 1.4 cents apiece. Therefore, this promotion offers a solid opportunity for those looking to stock up on LifeMiles for a specific redemption.

Head over to Avianca’s buy miles page to complete your purchase. Keep in mind that you’re limited to purchasing up to 200,000 miles per calendar year before any bonuses you may receive.

Since Avianca purchases are processed by the airline, you’ll want to use a credit card that rewards you for airfare. For example, The Platinum Card® from American Express earns 5x points spent directly with airlines or through AmexTravel.com (up to $500,000 per year, then 1x points).

How To Redeem LifeMiles

Being able to purchase LifeMiles at a reduced rate effectively allows you to get a deeply discounted cash fare. Then, you can redeem your Avianca LifeMiles across a wide variety of Star Alliance carriers. Here are a couple of compelling options:

  • Fly Business Class to Europe: You can book a one-way business class ticket to Europe with multiple Star Alliance airlines like SWISS, Turkish Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and more for 63,000 miles. Thanks to this promotion, you could purchase just 63,000 miles for $825.
  • Fly Transcontinental in the U.S. on United Polaris: You can book a one-way United business class award from Newark (EWR) to Los Angeles (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO) for 25,000 LifeMiles. With this bonus, you could purchase 25,000 miles for $363 to book the ticket. This is a pretty stellar price given typical cash prices of around $600 to $800.

Avianca is also a transfer partner of 6 major reward currencies. If you’ve got points or miles with Amex Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Brex Rewards, Capital One Miles, Citi ThankYou Rewards, or Marriott Bonvoy, you’ll want to consider transferring points from one of these programs first to lower your out-of-pocket cost.

Final Thoughts

While there are plenty of ways to earn Avianca LifeMiles easily, you may find yourself short for a specific redemption. If this is the case, this promotion is an opportunity to score some great value for those planning to travel soon, but are short on the miles needed to do so.
