Update:The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

If you’re in need of Spirit Airlines Free Spirit points, the airline is offering up to an 80% bonus on purchased points through January 15, 2024.  While Spirit Airlines points are fairly limited, you may find a few use cases where topping up your account at a discount can be worthwhile.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Buy Spirit Airlines Points With a Bonus

Between now and January 15, 2024, you can earn up to 80% extra points when buying Free Spirit points.

You can save at the following percentage:

  • Buy 1,000 to 60,000+ points, earn an 80% bonus (1.4 cents per point)

The transactions are processed by points.com, so unfortunately you won’t be able to earn a spending bonus if you’re using a credit card that ordinarily earns a multiplier for purchasing directly through an airline or a travel purchase. Additionally, points can take up to 72 hours to land in the member’s Free Spirit account.

Using Free Spirit Points

Spirit’s Free Spirit program is entirely revenue-based, so the value of your points depends on the flight you’re redeeming for, starting at a minimum of 2,500 points. Unfortunately, there is a $50 fee for non-elite members if you’re booking a trip under 28 days from departure, though trips booked in advance incur no fee.

If you were to purchase the maximum of 60,000 Free Spirit points with this promotion, you’d earn a total of 108,000 points thanks to the 80% bonus. This means you could take over 43 flights at the lowest 2,500-point rate. However, keep in mind that if the price of a flight is 2,500 points, that probably means it’s very cheap in cash, too.

At Upgraded Points, we value Free Spirit points at 1.1 cents per point, so we certainly wouldn’t advise speculatively purchasing points at this promotion’s 1.4 cents per point rate.

Spirit does not have any airline partners, so the use cases for these points are extremely limited, and the airline penalizes you for close-in bookings — a fee that many legacy carriers have gotten rid of.

Final Thoughts

For most people, purchasing Free Spirit points will not make any sense, but if you’re close to having enough points for an award, or have a planned use for these points, purchasing under this bonus sale can be worth it.
