In July, the Capital One Lounge at Washington-Dulles will make changes to its service model while it works to improve the experience for visitors going forward.

Here’s everything you should know and a look at what to expect during visits to the Capital One Lounge at IAD in the near future.

Upcoming Changes at the Capital One Lounge at IAD

Starting July 9, 2026, the Capital One Lounge at Washington-Dulles (IAD) will begin making “essential infrastructure and ventilation upgrades.” While the projects are ongoing, the lounge will temporarily shift to a limited-service offering, though it’s expected to return to full strength in the early fall of this year.

What does this mean for visitors to the lounge? Capital One states the lounge will remain open, but with a modified guest experience. There will be no seating available, and the full-service bar will be closed. The food offering will center on grab-and-go dishes and alternative beverage options.

However, guests will still be able to access the cafe space, which offers a full coffee bar, tea, canned drinks, pastries, and “select menu items available through a dedicated food service area.”

Ritual Cart programming will also continue with rotating specials, and guests will have access to a small amount of cafe-style seating located outside of the lounge in the terminal.

Again, these service changes will not take effect until July 9, 2026, and a full return to the standard service offering is expected this fall.

Other Airport Lounge Options at IAD

If you find the experience during renovations at the Capital One Lounge too limited, you have a handful of other airport lounge options to choose from at IAD.

Assuming you were gaining access to the Capital One lounge via a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or a Capital One Venture X Business Card, the Priority Pass membership you receive from both cards can gain you access to a few other airport lounges at IAD, including:

  • Air France-KLM lounge: Terminal A, in front of gate 20
  • Etihad Lounge in Collaboration With Chase: Terminal A near gate A14 (1 complimentary entry per calendar year for non-Select Chase card Priority Pass members)
  • Lufthansa Business Class Lounge: Midfield Terminal, Concourse B near gates B49 to B51
  • Turkish Airlines Lounge: Terminal B, Departure gate B43, after security
  • Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse: Terminal A, across from gate A32
Hot Tip:

If you don’t currently have airport lounge access, but travel often, read through our guide to the best credit cards for airport lounge access.

Final Thoughts

The Capital One Lounge provides a great experience for flyers passing through Washington-Dulles, and it’s great that Capital One is improving the space. Unfortunately, that means visitors will experience limited service starting on July 9.

Fortunately, this disruption isn’t expected to last long, with the full lounge experience expected to be back up and running by the fall of this year.
