The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is traditionally a cash-back rewards card — but it’s a popular option for points travelers who also use the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve® as Chase allows cardholders to pool points between the cards.

Now, the Freedom Unlimited card is offering another interesting welcome offer that you may be interested in.

Let’s dive into the details!

New Freedom Unlimited Card Welcome Offer

For long, the Freedom Unlimited card has offered $200 cash-back as a welcome bonus after meeting minimum spending requirements.

However, right now the card is offering quite a different bonus for applying. You won’t receive an upfront bonus after meeting the minimum spend requirement, but rather, you’ll earn an additional 1.5% cash-back on everything you buy, on up to $20,000 spent in the first year — worth up to $300 cash-back!

Here’s how it works:

SCROLL FOR MORE

After your first year — or $20,000 spent — your bonus categories will revert to the standard earn rates.

Since cash-back can be pooled with Ultimate Rewards-earning cards, if all $20,000 in qualifying purchases earns 3% back, you’d have at least 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points — and this isn’t taking into account the higher earning categories!

60,000 points could be worth $600 in cash-back, or even more when paired with an Ultimate Rewards-earning card.

For those who’d be pairing the card alongside another Chase card with access to the Chase transfer partners — like the Chase Sapphire Preferred card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve card — this offers a unique opportunity to rack up a considerable amount of points over the next year.

Freedom Unlimited Card Benefits

Beyond the rewards you’ll earn, the Freedom Unlimited card offers the following benefits:

  • $0 annual fee
  • Trip cancellation/interruption insurance
  • Auto rental collision damage waiver (secondary)
  • Purchase protection
  • Extended warranty protection

Final Thoughts

While it’s a bit unconventional to offer a welcome bonus that doesn’t actually give you a large stash of points after completing the minimum spend requirement, this new welcome offer does provide the opportunity to earn far more points than you might have earned otherwise with the standard bonus.

Keep in mind that this is an introductory offer, so if you’re interested you’ll want to take advantage before it’s too late!
