Chase has a history of offering referral bonuses for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve®, though the amount of points that can be earned by referring friends or family to the Sapphire cards has also changed over time.

Now, Chase has increased the annual limit you can earn for referring others to these popular cards.

Here’s what you need to know.

Chase Raises the Annual Cap on the Sapphire Referral Bonus to 100K Points

Chase has raised the annual limit on points you can earn from referring friends to the Chase Sapphire Preferred card and Chase Sapphire Reserve card from 75,000 points per year to 100,000.

This bonus is awarded when you refer a friend using a special link to one of these cards. Once they apply and are approved, you, as the original cardholder, earn bonus points for referring your friend.

In the past, the maximum limit you could earn when referring others to the Chase Sapphire Preferred card was 75,000 Ultimate Rewards points annually. This was generally achieved by making 5 referrals, with each successful referral yielding 15,000 points.

Chase has increased the maximum amount you can earn in referral bonuses to 100,000 points per year. That means if you’re a cardholder of either one of the Sapphire cards, you can earn 10,000 bonus points for each referral, which is a decrease from the previous 15,000 points, but you now have the opportunity to earn an additional 25,000 points compared to before.

Chase has made occasional adjustments to the cap; however, in recent years, the standard maximum has been set at 75,000 points per calendar year.

Hot Tip:

With the Chase Sapphire referral bonus limit now raised to 100,000 points, there’s still a great opportunity to earn even more by referring friends and family to other Chase credit cards you may have in your wallet!

Chase’s Refer-a-Friend program incentivizes current cardholders to refer Chase’s banking and credit card products to friends and family.

To access your referral links, click this link. Then navigate to and click the Refer friends now button for the card you want to recommend. When prompted, provide your last name, zip code, and the last 4 digits of your credit card number. You’ll then be able to copy the unique URL and share it with your friends via email, text, or social media.

You can also do this by logging into your account via Chase’s mobile app (iOS, Android) or its website. The refer-a-friend option is on the card’s account page.

Final Thoughts

Chase has raised the maximum annual limit for earning points through referrals on either Sapphire cards — the Chase Sapphire Preferred card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve card — to 100,000 points.

While it is disappointing to earn fewer points per referral (10,000 points for each approved referral instead of 15,000), you now have the opportunity to earn 25% more than before.
