Phoenix seems to be a popular destination for Asian carriers lately. China Airlines has just announced a new route from Taipei (TPE) to Phoenix, just a few days after Starlux —which is also based in Taipei— announced plans to fly to the city.

Here’s what you need to know.

China Airlines To Fly 3 Times per Week to Phoenix

China Airlines will start flights from Taipei (TPE) to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) beginning on December 3, 2025. The route will operate 3 times per week, although the exact days are unclear.

Interestingly, the airline will fly nonstop on the outbound route from Taipei to Phoenix. On the return flight, however, China Airlines will make a stop in Los Angeles (LAX).

China Airlines will fly its Airbus A350-900 on the route. This 3-class aircraft features 306 seats: 32 business class seats, 31 premium economy seats, and 243 economy class seats.

This news comes at an interesting time, as another Taiwanese airline has just announced flights between the 2 cities.

Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines announced this week that it will launch service between Taipei and Phoenix on January 15, 2026. Flights will operate 3 times per week on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Starlux operates a gorgeous Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring 4 first-class seats, 26 business class seats, 36 premium economy seats, and 240 economy class seats.

Phoenix will become Starlux’s fifth U.S. destination — and the longest at more than 7,100 miles. Starlux currently serves Los Angeles, Ontario, California (ONT), San Francisco (SFO), and Seattle (SEA)

Bottom Line:

Although Starlux announced its new routes first, China Airlines’ flights will begin more than a month earlier than its rival. However, we aren’t seeing flights for sale on either airline yet.

About China Airlines

China Airlines is the flag carrier of Taiwan. Founded in 1959, the airline serves destinations in 29 countries. The airline has a substantial presence in North America, flying to several cities already served by Taiwan-based competitors Starlux and EVA Air. Destinations include Los Angeles, Ontario, New York (JFK), San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver (YVR).

China Airlines is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, which means you can reserve flights through SkyTeam partners using points and miles to fly on China Airlines.

You can book flights on China Airlines through programs such as:

Final Thoughts

China Airlines announced flights from Taipei to Phoenix just days after its rival, Starlux, did the same. These flights will provide some exciting competition between the 2 airlines, and we look forward to the flights taking off this winter. There should be some great deals as the competition heats up.
